Up for sale, a very cool 1927 Ford Roadster project. I purchased this not too long ago, and I've realized I have too many personal projects right now along with a long list of customer work in the shop. Rather than putting it in storage I've decided to offer it up to someone who can finish it up and enjoy the car.
This was originally built by Brett Reed, the former drummer from the punk band Rancid. He worked for Moal Coachworks in the Bay Area, and he built the chassis in his spare time using techniques he learned while working for them. The workmanship on the chassis is outstanding, it's a shame to cover it up with the body.
The mainframe rails were built up from multiple pieces, and they have been raduised along the bottom, as well as curved to match the body and tapered from rear to front. The rear suspension is fully adjustable torsion bar and the front features a mono leaf with a single center perch. There's angled pockets where you sit that provide ample clearance for a standard seat. There's also plenty of leg room, I'm six feet tall and I fit comfortably in the car. The rest of the chassis is all made from tube, the work and welding is exceptional. Everywhere you look there's endless details that must have taken hundreds of hours to achieve.
It was set up for a flathead and an open drive early Ford three speed. I sourced an 8BA and a 1947 Ford pickup truck three speed transmission. It has an early Ford banjo rear axle that's been converted to open drive. the motor was a good runner that came from a 1953 Ford, it will need to be disassembled and refreshed with a good cleaning, a quick hone and new rings. The trans is ready to go. Also included in the sale is a Poli Form fiberglass track nose, an early Model T oval fuel tank and a Schroeder sprint car steering box. The Model T body is a Henry Ford original and is in very good shape needing only very minor repairs.
The car needs to have the steering sorted out, the tie rod is too close to the frame. Other than that it's a very straightforward build needing a fuel system, tin work, plumbing and electrical. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own such a unique and well built hot rod. There's a lot of junk out there, this is a great start to a high end car that's priced right. Please feel free to call us directly with any questions, you can reach us at 626-804-3780 during normal business hours. This vehicle sold on a bill of sale only.
