I've taken this onw as far as I can. School is opening and I'm getting back to work. Thought I could finish this before August. This is a Porsche 924 Turbo that runs. The car shows no indications that it has ever been hit with straight panels, bumpers, etc. I acquired the car from a family whose uncle passed away and left it to his nephew. The nephew had absolutely no interest in the car and sold it to me. I got it back in June and have been tinkering with it whenever I could to get it running. First, the car has not been run since 2002! I think he had a muffler installed that year. When the uncle purchased the Porsche from it's original owner in 1998, he started doing some restoration work on it while driving it. I have work completed orders totaling over $5k for work the he had done at different times with the last batch done in 2003. I think that the owner started to have health challenges from then until he passed away this year. So he gave up maintaining the car and it sat covered and under a shelter at his home. I have photos of the car at the owner's home. I will tell you what I have done to it so that you will be clear, and also what I think it needs, and I am not a mechanic. I just love old cars. Ok, when I got the car I bought a new battery. It would start and immediately cut back off. I'm figuring fuel starvation. So I added gasoline (3 gallons) and tried it and the same thing happened. Starts, and then cuts offI wanted everything to be in good condition from the tank to the engine so I purchased a in-tank fuel pump (very expensive), an external fuel pump, a fuel pump relay, a new fuel filter, and added more gas. Tried to start it. Same thing. I then purchased a fuel distributor and when I tried to start it, it started and ran, but was skipping. A friend suggested that I should install new fuel injectors, so I bought four new ones and put them in. We cranked the car and it ran, but still was skipping a little with an occasional misfire. I'm really scratching my head by this time. So, I bit the bullet one more time and purchased a set of new spark plug wires and when I cranked it, it ran. Right now, if I let it sit and idle, the spark plugs will carbon foul and the misfiring will start to happen again. If I clean the plugs it runs smooth, but I can't let it idle for very long. At this point, I am not taking it to a shop. I have done the basic things, but the spark plugs carbon fouling has gotten to me. That is why I'm listing it on Ebay. Time will not allow me to continue with this project. I think I am very close to having a great running car, bit I'm having to move on. This is a true and complete assessment of what I have done and receipts will go with the car if it sells. I also installed new tie rod ends, sun visor plastic clips, parking light bulbs all around, replaced the headlight rotating crossmember. The headlight motor is fine, but the linkage was messed with by someone, and so they are not operating properly. I adjusted them my self, but never tried to see if they will go up and down yet. Also purchased a new wheel lock set, installed new wiper blades and probably one or two other things. I drove the car a couple of days ago to try to clean the top of the pistons. Had not driven it at all since I purchased it in June. From driving it I think it needs front struts. I know that it could use brake pads (probably all around). Oil is good, but pressure indicator does not work. Probably a switch or a fuse. The A/C blower works sometimes. I'm sure it needs freon, but may need a blower relay also. Again, the car has been sitting up for quite some time so there are some body noises going on and when I ran over a bump in the road, the rear hatch popped up! The repair manual says that there are some adjustments that can be made to take care of the rear hatch popping open, but I didn't make any adjustments. I just closed it back and it stayed. It opens with the key. The Yokahoma tires are pretty much brand new but were purchased in 2001. This would be a nice car for a Porsche lover to finish up. It is not a perfect car, but It's pretty much all there, and it's a turbo! Once the motor is running and not fouling out, time can be spent discovering and fixing the other little things that it needs like the turn indicators. They don't work, but it's probably just a relay. I have invested quite a bit of money in this car. It just needs someone to finish the job. Car is sold as in is "AS IS" condition with no warranty stated or implied. Sale is final. Seller will accept payment with Paypal, cashier's check, cash, etc. I am a long time "Ebayer" with over a thousand transactions. If you are in Atlanta, you can come by to look at this nice 924 Turbo!
