Car description

4 sale is my beautiful 1. 8ltr fuel injected 914-4GT. I have owned this car since 1990 and have replaced or restored every part on the car except the engine. which starts with one turn of the ignition key and runs strong. surprisingly fast forit's size. If you are familiar with the history of the 914. you'll be aware of the many flaws the car originally had. plastic fuel lines. uel pump location causing vapor lock etc etc. All of the original problems have been dealt with as well as many upgrades resulting in a solid. ully sorted car. ready to drive home from my Kansas City location. The body and paint work were done at a local shop specializing in 914s. The fiberglass flares are bonded. ith mat. o the fenders inside and out. acked with seam seal and heavily undercoated. All of the seams on the car line up straight and everything opens and closes smoothly. The fiberglass rocker covers. ront and rear bumper. nd front valance are expertly done. The dupont Imron Alpine White paint was applied perfectly. nd I've had people walk across a gas station to compliment just the paint job. The floor of the trunk has been painted with ceramic heat paint to keep from being affected by high temps of muffler and exhaust. The front struts and brakes were sourced from an '83 911SC. then the rotors [front and rear] were sent off to CA for expert cross drilling. A larger 19mm master cylinder and stainless steel brake lines were installed to firm up the brake pedal. nd the troublesome rear proportioning valve was replaced with a T. no longer necessary because of the greatly increased stopping power of the much larger. vented and cross drilled front brakes. 21mm torsion bars replaced the stock size to stiffen up the front suspension. long with Bilstein shocks and 180lb adjustable springs to upgrade the back. Turbo tie rods and a bump steer kit round out the steering and suspension mods. The American Eagle racing Fuchs style wheels look great and although not forged. are of very high quality. The interior was completely removed. including the "Dyna mat" covering of the floor. I wanted to be sure there was no rust hiding there [no rust found]. After scraping all of the covering off. the floor was painted with Por 15 [the car restorers friend] putting a rock hard rust proof finish over the bare metal. I then applied new Dyna mat soundproofing to every surface of the floor and rockers. nd firewall. That was covered with a thick automotive carpet padding and new high grade custom carpet was installed. along with custom floor mats with Porsche crest finished off the carpet. The seats. door panels. ack pad and all trim were done in a buttery smooth black cowhide leather. The door panels. with a map pocket/armrest now on both sides. are covered in a lizard textured cowhide. reminiscent of the basketweave vinyl used originally. The fiberboard backing of the door panels was replaced withCoroplas corrugated plastic. which will never rot. ag or distort. The seat squabs or inserts. were originally covered in hair on calfskin. but wore out quickly and sowere recently replaced with a heavy upolstery fabric with the hair on look. The interior is finished off with a 911 style 5 gauge dash covered in the same smooth leather as the rest of the interior. and the dash face covered in the textured leather. All the gauges work. ach. peedo. uel. emp. pressure and clock. There is a cylinder head temp gauge in the console along with a few other VDO gauges that aren't hooked up. and there is still an empty slot on the console face. That is a candidate for removing or installing a subwoofer or re purposing in another way. I have many books with photos of 914s through the years. one of which showing a 916 with a black and white geometric fabric interior that looks very much like this one. done by the Porsche designer Tony Lapine. I'm sure he would approve. Speaking of inspirations. this car. with the exception of the spoiler looks like the Sunnto Porsche 914-6GT that won it's class in the 1970 LeMans 24 hour classic. nd shows up a number of times on the track in the Steve McQueen movie about that race. The spoiler was on the car when I bought it and I get a 50/50 reaction from people on it. To the purist and preservationist. it is an abomination. but then so is the whole car. to someone that covets all the shortcomings of the original design. To the other half. and if you've read this far you are probably in this category. think it is the coolest wing/spoiler ever put on a 914. I agonized about whether to keep it at first. thinking it was too over the top. But when Daytona 500 style basket handle wings started showing up on Ford Fiestas I realized automotive styling had caught up with the car. On close examination. if Porsche themselveshad designed a whale tail for the 914 they couldn't have done it any better than this. The curve of the sail panel blends into the fender right as the front edge starts to lift out of the trunk lid. The curve of the wing reverse mirrors the curveon the flare. and although the black edge is paint. it looks so much like the rubber on a 930 whale tail you almost have to touch it to know it isn't. It is actually functional in that when the car get over 100mph you can feel it pushing down. lanting the rear. I have no idea where it originally came from but when I built this cars twin. I took the whole trunk lid off and shipped it to St Louiswhere Rayco Fiberglass made a replica for me. I sold one to a fellow from Arkansas for his 914 so I know of only three. The fellow from Rayco obviously had integrity because our deal was only I could order them. [I didn't want them showing up everywhere]. Because of the Porsche reflector between the tail lightsthere is a toggle switched solenoid release with a manual overide to open the trunk. Mirrors are lightweight aluminum flags sourced from an '80s Saab. The Porsche Flags were over-kill and anything else looked cheesy. The mirror bases were contoured to fit the doorskins. The car comes with 2 tops. so one can be painted to match the car. I never reallydid anything with the tops. because I never used them. I only took the car outon nice. dry days and one of my favorite times to drive was on a dry day in the winter with the top off. he windows up and the stainless steel heat exchangers trying to melt my leg. Both tops have slight signs of wear. Overall the condition of the paint is very good considering how long ago it was done. but then Imron is some tough paint. and the car just hasn't been driven much since it was converted. There are small rock chips and a few flaws normal for a used car that has been driven. When I first listed this I immediately got a request to "hear it run". I set about making a "virtual test drive" like I'd seen others imbed in their listings. I did shoot several video clips I had intended to edit into just such a clip but have been unable to figure out three different editing software suites and have given up trying. The link below will take you to my YouTube channel where you can watch numerous unedited videos of this car on the road. I also will accommodate anyone that wants to fly in and drive this home by picking you up at the airport and shuttling you around to do the title transfer and get a drive away tag. This car was my "baby" for many years and I am keen to find it good new home. Finally. I see folks bidding on "project" 914s for more than half of what I'm asking for this. and believe me anything with a Porsche part number costs $100 and up. Why buy a "money pit" 914 when this is fully sorted? I get that people want to start off on a budget and fix it up as they get the money. that's what I did. $25. 00+ ago. This car is a bargain for what you'll get. you will not be disappointed. click www. youtube. com/channel/UCpEAW3wSGsyQQe5Ie9FQNcQ/videos here The following are some of the new and improved parts installed:160 LB [SILVER] SPRINGS W/ BILSTEIN SHOCKS21MM TORSION BARBUMP STEER KITVENTED/CROSSED DRILLED BRAKES AND STRUTS FROM 89 SCREAR ROTORS CROSS DRILLEDTURBO TIE RODS205/50/15-225/50/15 ZR BF GOODRICH TIRES 19MM MASTER CYLSS BRAKE LINES5 GAUGE 911 STYLE DASHBOARDELECTRIC TRUNK RELEASE HELLA HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS W/100W HIGH BEAMHELLA HIGH POWER DRIVING LIGHTSALMOST ALL RUBBER SEALS AND TRIM REPLACEDFUEL PUMP REPLACED3 MONTH OLD OPTIMA RED TOP BATTERYSTAINLESS STEEL HEAT EXCHANGERSDINO STEERING WHEEL AND SHIFT KNOBNEW CV JOINTSHERSHMAN AUTOMATIC ANTENNACUSTOM CAR COVERBRA2 TOPSFUEL LINES REPLACEDFIRST GEAR SYNCROS REPLACEDPERTRONIX ELECTRONIC IGNITIONNEW BOSCH FUEL PUMP
