Car description |
---|
Hand-built and refined over more than 20 years, this 1987 model hits a sweet spot in the evolution of the 911. The suspension has been fully sorted and fine-tuned to remove a lot of the negative traits of earlier cars while still allowing the chassis to offer an abundance of communication to the driver. The air-cooled flat-6 engine is another unconventional engineering decision that works surprisingly well. The first time you plant the throttle to the floor you’ll wonder why everyone doesn’t make engines like this. There’s something about that savage bark from the engine just a couple of feet behind you that is highly addictive, begging you to keep your foot down; to shift gears faster to make the most of it.
Inside, the 911 is all business. From the second your butt hits the seat, you immediately feel connected. The seating position is perfect. Seriously. You won’t want to get out. The five round gauges are directly ahead of you and the bright orange needles on top of the black faces offer the perfect clarity to see everything with a quick glance. The steering wheel has that classic ‘80s look but what’s really important here is the feel that comes through it. Each bump, dip, and crack in the pavement makes the car feel just that little bit more alive. Steering the 911 down the road is like having a conversation with your best friend – honest, unfiltered, and fun.
There’s a reason the 911 is still around today and why it’s look and character have changed so little over the last 50 years. Porsche got it right the first time and each new generation has been just a little better, faster, better engineered. And while the new 911 is switching to smaller turbocharged engines across the range, these older air-cooled cars will continue to offer a very unique and rewarding driving experience that isn’t to be missed.
This 1987 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet has full documentation consisting of clean Autocheck, window sticker, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and full service records including engine overhaul at 116K miles. Runs and drives well. A/C blows cold. All accessories including powertop work well. Top has some wear, but still presentable. Excellent daily driven summer car.
