Car description

1940 Pontiac Silver Streak Clean, Very Original Example Parma Wine over Tan Mohair Original Straight-Six, 3spd Manual Transmission VIDEO WITH LISTING VIN: 6HA83979 Body: 3174 Style: 40-2527 Engine: 6-683163 (engine is original) Paint: Originally Nottingham Grey (84), now Parma Wine (82) Upholstery: Tan Mohair (91) We're selling this beautiful 1940 Pontiac Silver Streak on behalf of a local gentleman who has owned the car for over forty years. He even still has the temporary registration and license plates from when he brought the car home from Bill Sullivan Pontiac in...Arlington Heights, IL on June 26th, 1978! As it sits now, this is a clean, nicely-preserved example in solid mechanical order that is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. Exterior: - Body is in excellent order. No dents, scuffs, scrapes, or anything of the sort. Please take a look at the video along with the listing, as the car is shown close-up and in direct sunlight. - While the trim tag decodes the original color as Nottingham Grey, the car wears a respray of Parma Wine, another "correct" 1940 Silver Streak color. The color change from grey to red had already taken place when the owner purchased the car in 1978, and he had it resprayed the same Parma Wine color in the late 2000s. This car has been responsibly-owned and always garage-kept, so the paint still presents very nicely. Minimal blemishes. - Polished surfaces are nice throughout. There is a little bit of oxidation on the top of the front bumper, but the rest is very nice. - Wheels are in great shape, with no damage or peeling paint. Painted swirls on the wheels are a great look and the striping presents well. Lincoln whitewalls are in nice shape as well. DOT number reads DOT-148. - Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free. Rear windows retract front to back rather than top down, which is a cool quirk. Interior: - Original interior is in good shape. The mohair material shows only the slightest bit of age; no significant fraying or discoloring. There is a stitched-up repair on the driver's lower seat back, as well as a spot of burst seam along the driver's outer bolster. - Odometer reads 39,230 and is functional. Other gauges (fuel, voltage, temp, and pressure) are all functional as well. - Wood throughout the interior, presumed original, is all intact and cleans up nicely. No peeling, noteworthy scratches, or anything of the sort. - Heat/fan/defrost is functional. Radio is not. - Headliner is tight and intact. The shelf area below the rear window shows its age a bit by way of some slight sunbleaching/discoloring. Under the Hood / Underbody: - Original engine, 3.7L Straight-6. Engine number 6-683163. 87hp, 164 ft lbs. Carter WA-1 carb. Three speed manual on the column. - Underbody looks quite good. Please take a look through the photos. Frame is nice and solid. Very much structurally sound. No exhaust holes; the car is nice and quiet. No evidence of any active leaks either. Nice and dry under there. - The car runs and drives very well. It fires right up with a push of the starter pedal, idles cool, steady, and quiet, shifts smoothly, accelerates well and without hesitation, and brakes straight and effectively. Truly a well-sorted driver. The car just had an oil change is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
