Pontiac Chieftain Silver Streak 8 GM motors 514365 (gm 1) Built in Southgate, A Straight 8 Model year 1949 My Friend had a stroke about 10 years ago and couldn't finish it... I think all of the part are there including the new interior and new top, t just needs to be installed... New paint with fenders and bumpers off (Though I noticed that the windshield wasn't removed) I figure if it was put together it would easily sell for $70,000 at Gooding/Barrett-Jackson....

In 1949, ontiac introduced a restyled line up courtesy of designer Herman Kaiser with a lot of Harley Earl influence thrown in. The company released two models, he Streamliner and the Chieftain, nd both shared the same 120" wheelbase. The standard engine was the 239 CID six cylinder motor, ut the cream of the crop was the buttery smooth straight 268 CID 8 cylinder engine, ubbed the "Silver Streak." Both 3 speed automatic and manual transmissions could be had and the cars were available in the coupe, onvertible, edan and four door.
This 1949 Pontiac Chieftain Silver Streak 8 has a newer paint job with a lovely patina on the upper portion of the dashboard that was not painted. This Chieftain has the Silver Streak trim option as evidenced by the longer side spear and extra chrome body trim. The body is rust free and straight with excellent panel gaps. The interior is largely uninstalled sans some new seat upholstery, arpet and canvas convertible top and parts are with the car. To the knowledge of this owner, ll of the instruments are in proper working order as are the signals, nd lights and all parts are with the car for complete assembly.
The car is mechanically right. The last time I heard the 8-cylinder motor, rior to restoration being started, nbsp;it was so smooth, ou often forget it is running and the car drove perfectly on the open road prior to restoration being started. The steering and new brakes are spot on for the era, nd the car could easily take long cruises with ease once completed. The vehicle has what appears of to be a new engine with a new carburetor, ut the carburetor needs to have the gas line hook-up. The wiring looks to be original.
For the Pontiac enthusiast, hese cars are sleepers in terms of valuation and represent a bargain in the current market.
