For sale is a 1976 Plymouth Duster with the "Feather" Duster option package, Slant Six/3speed auto. Manual Steering and Brakes. A/C, though the compressor has been removed (I may still have it in storage).
If you are not familiar with the Feather Dusters, they were an attempt by Chrysler to make the Dusters lighter and therefore more fuel efficient. The intake manifold, underside bracing for the trunk and hood, and rear bracing for the bumpers are all made of aluminum. Most Feathers came with a 4 speed manual transmission, but this one has a 3 speed automatic. Only approximately 5,000 Feather Dusters were made in 1976.
The main problem is the engine. It was running fine til one day when it died. I can get it started but it idles terribly rough and is barely driveable. It has spark and fuel. May be the head gasket or loss of compression in a cylinder. I am not sure. Doesn't really matter, because you're probably just gonna rip it out to put a V8 in anyway. The transmission is the 904 Torqueflite and was shifting fine last time I drove it about a year ago. It currently has the "Super Six" setup with the proper intake manifold and Carter BBD carb, but I have the original aluminum manifold that I will include with the car. Mileage is unknown as the instrument cluster has been changed. All of the aluminum parts are present. There is some rust in the rear quarters, front floorboards, and front passenger fender. The interior has the usual cracks in the plastic and vinyl components. It has the 60/40 split bench that was recovered, but has faded. I renewed most of the suspension a few years back. New rubber for joints, torsion bars from a 318 car, new rear leaf springs with 5 leaves instead of the original four. Tires are decent. The car also has the rare, matching passenger side rear view mirror on the door.
I have lots of extra parts that I will include with the car. Two good fenders, a "Feather" trunk lid with some damage where it was pried open, green interior plastic parts, extra tail lights, an extra grille, original steering wheel. There is more, I'll have to dig around and see what else I have. Ideally, I'd like to sell it all together as a package. I just don't have the time or money to work on it anymore and I'd rather it gets used than rot in my driveway.
Sold as is. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping. I have this listed for sale locally, and will end the auction at any time should someone offer to buy it,
