Car description |
---|
This 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230S is a very original European market car; sold new in Portugal atMovauto and brought to the US by its original owner. We acquired this Mercedes from its second owner here in the United States; another Portuguese national.
With just 82,000 km (50k original miles) This Mercedes retains all of its European market equipment, including the desirable headlights, metric instruments, and even a set of fitted OEM rubber floor mats.It is powered by the original 230 inline six engine backed by a 4-speed column-shift manual transmission. These cars are truly a pleasure to drive.
The previous owner had the car repainted in its original Graphite Grey some time in the 1980s, and we brought the car to its current condition through careful wet-sanding and buffing. The paintwork shows some small marks from years of gentleuse, detailed below. On the whole the finish shows a rich, consistent gloss. Mercedes' high quality chrome trim holds a deep shine.
The grey cloth seat upholstery appears to have been redone, but features correct materials and patterns for the model. The original Bakelite steering wheel and other controls are still present and intact. The only modification is an upgraded period-looking radio with AM/FM and iPod capabilities.
The numbers-matching 2.3l Inline Six starts easily with a working electric choke on dualSolex carburetors, and rides well with no creaks or rattles. The car wears original 13″ steel wheels with color-matched hubcaps and chrometrim rings. Michelin tires are in excellent condition.
Mechanically we found the car to be in very good condition. Since coming to Automotion the car has received complete overhauls of the brakes, cooling system and ignition system using OEM components. We have also performed a carburetor adjustment, and rebuilt the column-shift linkage for smoother, more confident operation. The car is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust.
