Car description

1986 Mustang GT - modified - Original 5.0 replaced with a 1965 solid-lifter 289 Cobra motor, 0.30 over and completely rebuilt by my ex-GM Mechanic brother with professionally reworked 'good' heads, a wild Comp Cam, Weind very High-Rise (Similar to a Tunnel Ram and can take 1 or 2 carburaters) and Holley 650 cfm Double-Pumper (also have a 750 cfm), Mac headers(need recoating), exhaust system and long chrome tips, Mallory, MSD and Accel for elec. The 289 is mated to the an upgraded 5-speed in the car. The car's unibody is completely braced, frt and rear sway bars and includes stiffer springs as well as Tokico Gas Shocks (adjustable to 5 positions), as it was built with Road Racing in mind and also has quicker Steering. The brakes are from a Ford Station Wagon/Lincoln which was a straight swap and stops the car very quickly as well as allowing 5-bolt wheels. The wheels (shown in jacked-up mode) are custom, polished Aluminum with the center hubs from a Wheel shop that were licensed to build wheels with the old Porsche Targa 5-spoke centers, they are 9.5" x 16" frt and 11" x 16" rear and shod with Michelin XGTZ tires; 255/50 ZR 16 frt and 315/40 ZR 16 rear. The rearend is the stock 8,8 posi of 3.73 ratio. NOTE THAT I HAVE JUST FOUND PARTS RECIEPTS AND CATALOGS ON INSTALLED PARTS. However - here's the situation; I am the original owner having bought the car new in California, and after 175k miles on the old 5.0, I was looking to buy a stronger 5.0 or 351 Windsor crate motor, but my brother and I found this Cobra motor and he offered to build it - this was in North Carolina and he put the car together with the above-noted parts in 1997-1998. It is licensed in NC and has only been driven approximately 5K miles since built, primarily in California, but was not registered here. The car has been stored with 2 car covers, wheel covers and on jacks at my mothers house since about 2003 and has not been run since. NOTE THAT THE ENGINE NOW STARTS It had run very well and was quick, but the rear main seal needs to be a heavier wax-impregnated rope type(marine), since the old motor mated to the new trans caused excessive oil leakage. My brother was going to do this but was not in the US for a long time and then when he came back I departed the US in 2008...so the car has just sat....so it will need the oil pan, valve cover gaskets replaced, and the carb rebuilt with a carb kit(I also have). It's really a nice car but I had a daily driver and then bought a 69 El Camino (now also for sale on this site) that I improved.drove for a short time before I left. Note that I have priced the car reasonably AND SINCE IT NOW STARTS HAVE ADJUSTED THE PRICE. Note that the wheels themselves are worth a lot of money(they're gorgeous!) and the motor is a bit rare...NOTE: WE GOT THE MOTOR RUNNING ON FRIDAY MAY 12 - HENCE THE ADJUSTED PRICE. The body is in good shape, only a couple rust spots - one up high behind the 'louvers' and on the trunk drip edge. The interior is in good shape, no tears on the upholstery, but would suggest replacing the original carpeting. Viewing is by appointment in San Juan Capistrano and can call at 949 429 3703 or 949 422 1843.
