1971 Chevrolet Blazer K5 Project
This is a solid restoration foundation. Dont try and build your next show rig with someone else's scrap. Start strong=finish strong!
This was a single family owned K5 prior to my ownership. The last owner had it for years in Nevada He started to do a motor replacement and was relocated the pacific NW. The K5 sat in a Nevada storage for 10+ years before making its way to Washington state in 2017. I purchased the Blazer with the intent on restoring it. It is one of the most rust free examples I have ever seen. This Blazer is a factory V8, 4wheel drive, Auto trans. This Blazer started out life with Medium Olive paint (1 504AA) paint code. It appears to have only one repaint to the faded dark blue/green? color you see in the pics. You can still see some areas of the original paint under the blue. The original 307CI motor was bad and the last owner SAT a 1975 truck 350 in the engine bay. Block ID# TYW =1975 C10-2500 LS9 4bolt 165hp. This motor was said to be a good runner but has sat incomplete for many years. Some of the original short water pump accessories are still in the truck, but the motor has long water pump installed currently. This motor is not even bolted to the trans or the mounts....Its truly just sitting in the engine bay. The transmission, transfer case and drive lines are intact. This still has the original Heavy Duty Aux Seats "utility buckets" (1AN3AA) trim code. as well as the stock rear seat (1AS3AF) the fronts need recovered/foamed but the rear is in amazing shape for this age of vehicle. The top is a double wall and in great shape. No apparent cracks on the top or the hatch. Some screw hole patches are present and it has one small "chunk" missing (about the size of a dime) on the rear drip rail. The latch assembly is not installed. As for the rust. Yes it has some. No its not near as bad as most. The driver floor has a small area that will need attention. The passenger floor has a similar spot to the drivers side. The Passanger rocker is just starting to break through on the outer skin. Also on the passanger side quarter panel is a small area just behind the rocker that will need attention. The front end parts (including the battery tray, core support and inner fenders look good). The doors, cargo area, rear hatch and surrounding area look nice. Both driver and Passanger quarter panels have 2holes...Possibly for a spare tire holder and gas can holder??? This is upon initial inspection and if blaster or stripped down more may be found...but again its an Nevada truck and looks super dry!The truck was a radio delete (I have the original cover) unfortunately at some point a stereo insert was installed so the dash has been cut. The original owners manual and sleeve are still in the glove box along with some small odds and ends. Some parts from the 71 are lose in the back as well as some parts from the 75 Motor. It has mismatched tires and wheels but it does roll fine.I have a Nevada title signed off by the last owner and I can provide a bill of sale upon purchase. These Blazers are getting harder and harder to find everyday. I see a lot of project rigs for sale but most have so much rust repair that a restoration would not be cost effective besides taking forever. I know every panel is reproduced for this body style....but OEM original is always best. This is a legit restoration candidate. Like a blank slate.....LS it, Convert it to 2WD (they are HOT right now) The possibilities are endless.....
