Up for sale is a truly rare 1972 Volvo P 1800 ES with 62 K original miles with Automatic Transmission.
Volvo built only 8,078 of the 1800 ES cars in the years 1972 and 1973 ONLY, and very few of them had automatic transmission.
With wonderful styling, the 1800 is the work of Swedish designer Pelle Petterson, and built ( and known) for longevity. A 1966 Volvo 1800 holds the world record at 3.2 million miles.
The most valuable Volvo 1800 is considered to be the 1800 ES, and the most expensive 1800 ever sold at auction was a 1972 1800 ES which sold for $92,400 in 2018.
This car is a 2 Door, 4 seat Hatchback, a Classic Volvo Sports Wagon, with Rear Wheel Drive and hydraulic disc brakes on all 4 wheels. It has lots of vintage Chrome detailing, and a large and such an elegant frameless glass rear hatch, that it became known as a vehicle suitable for Snow White !
It was marketed as a touring Sports Wagon, with increased luggage capacity, thus extra space for golfing or hunting equipment.Volvo called it “either the world’s fastest, prettiest truck, or the world’s toughest, most reliable sports car.”Perfect for a daily driver ! Or weekend excursions !
I am listing this vehicle for a friend. I myself own three Vintage Volvo’s, all of which I purchased on eBay.The car has been garaged, but the owner no longer has the space (or the time) for it.
This car was purchased in 2005, and the transmission was rebuilt at that time. (Paperwork will be included) .It is a 4 cylinder automatic, and has been repainted. The exterior is in remarkable condition, with a small patch of bubbling paint on the passenger rear fender (See pic # 14), and a very tiny hole behind the front wheel on the driver’s side. (See pic # 12).The doors are solid, and close with the slightest push of a finger. The hood of the car is insulated, a unique feature of this car.
There are two ignition keys included in the sale. Also there is a spare tire, and an extra muffler exhaust system will be included with the purchase.
The chrome on this car looks beautiful and shiny, and do check out the fancy gas cap (with lock, key included) and the beautiful chrome around the vintage headlights, not to mention the absolute stellar styling and lines of the body of this car !
The tan leather interior (4 seats) is supple, and the gages are of crisp clean glass. There is a Blaupunkt radio and padded dash, and manual windows and locks.
The car runs, but the fuel lines and tires should be replaced as they have degraded with age.Additionally you will need to purchase a battery.
This 1972 Volvo 1800 ES will be sold “As is”, no warranties are stated or implied, and the sale will be Final.Payment accepted by cashier check only. The owner is motivated to sell, but will not give this Classic car away. All offers are welcome.
This car needs very little, considering it’s age .Have your trusted mechanic go over it. Some routine maintenance and attention will provide you with a reliable and elegant means of transportation, and you will be welcomed to that friendly and quirky club of Volvo owners who will always happily wave to you on the road !
HAPPY SHOPPING !!!
