Car description

This 1972 Volvo 1800E was sold new and purchased 20 years ago by the late husband of the current owner. He was reportedly the fourth owner and added approximately 34k of the 81k indicated miles. This car is finished in white over tan and features air conditioning, a period Kenwood radio, and folding rear seatbacks. Power is from a replacement B20F inline-four paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Reportedly installed in 2009, the engine was rebuilt and features a .030? overbore, Mahle pistons, ported heads, a replacement cam, and more as detailed below. Further modifications include Bilstein shocks, IPD lowering springs, and a Glasspack-style muffler. This 1800E has won a number of awards, and it is now being offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with some service records, factory literature. This car was repainted at some point in the past in its original White (42), and the windshield has also been replaced. Other glass is said to retain its factory tint, and the functionality of the rear window defogger is unknown per the seller. Front headlights are covered by clear plastic rock shields, and some paint chips are noted under the lights.
Powder coated 15? steel wheels feature IPD trim rings and wear 195/60 Dunlop D60 A2 tires. IPD lowering springs have been added along with Bilstein shocks and front and rear IPD sway bars, the latter mounted into the rear seat pan area with IPD doubler plates. Dual-circuit vacuum-boosted disc brakes are equipped all around and feature red-painted calipers. Stainless steel braided brake lines and new brake rotors and pads were installed in 2013.
The cabin features tan upholstery and brown carpets, both of which are said to show some wear. This car is equipped with a factory-correct 1973-style seat belt system, color-matched brown floor mats, and folding rear seatbacks. Photos show a tear in the driver-side door panel which was recently repaired per the seller, and sound deadening material is reportedly installed under the carpets. The 5-digit odometer shows 81k miles, about 34k of which were added by the late owner. A 3-spoke steering wheel is equipped along with a woodgrain dashboard, and the seller notes a crack above the gauge cluster. A period Kenwood AM/FM/cassette radio is currently installed, connected to two Kenwood speakers mounted in the rear panel behind the rear seats. The dealer-installed Frigiking air conditioning system was reportedly converted to R134a in 2011 and also received a new condenser, hoses, dryer, and Sanden 508-style rotary compressor at that time.
It reportedly features a .030? overbore along with Mahle pistons, ported heads, a D cam, resurfaced rocker arm tips, a Cloyes steel and aluminum timing gear set, a B20B head gasket, head exhaust seats, lightened flywheel, and a 10:1 compression ratio. Compressions readings available in the gallery below, showing between 140 and 160 psi.
The M41 4-speed manual transmission is equipped with an electronic Laycock overdrive unit. The center carrier bearing and support for the driveshaft appears to have been replaced per the seller, and the first of three exhaust silencers features a welded Glasspack-style replacement. Recent maintenance included replacement of the hood insulation, and the seller notes that the location of the original engine is known. Additional underside photos show the Bilstein shocks, IPD sway bars, and brakes.
