1965 VOLVO 122S - A TRUE RALLY LEGEND
If you are looking for a Rally Legend to add to your collection, or just having fun driving for pleasure or for historic competition, this is a unique and rare opportunity for you.
This car is almost identical the Volvo 122S displayed in the Volvo Museum in Sweden. Both 1965 year of manufacture, both came in the 122S sport configuration, both originally came in Pearl White external paint with red interior and had the Marshal Rally lights.
However my Volvo 122S is not only for the looks, it is certified by FIA and ready to compete in Rally, Hill Climb or Racing and it has been raced most of its life in many European Rally competitions. I have a documented list for this car participating in over 100 competitions in many European Countries, including Sweden, Finland, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Belgium and Chechnya.
It’s equipped and inspected according to the requirement for historic racing which has been updated to 2017 and 2018 FIA standards, including all the current safety requirement and six point safety belt racing seats. The chassis has been reinforced, suspension and brakes updated, it has all the current required safety equipment. It has the B18 engine and the M40 close ratio 4 speed manual transmission with a turbo clutch system that are modified for maximum Rally performance, including bored engine of 1828cc (original 1778cc), Forged JE Pistons, Racing Balanced Rods and Bearings, Polished crankshaft, professionally modified high compression cylinder heads, valves and lighted flywheel. It has the safety fuel cell tank, 2 separate fuel pumps, racing oil pan with walls, oil cooler and electrical cooling fan.
I have the 6 correct and very rare Marshal (virgin breast) Rally lights installed and for an additional $2,500 (not included in the listing or price) I will include the matching Marshal searchlight that you can install on the roof (very, very rare). The roof lights were only allowed on 1965 and older Rally cars.
The car runs very well and the engine, transmission and clutch are in perfect condition.
The car is registered in and I have a clean Indiana title to the car. The car is in really nice shape and looks great but it is not a show car, it’s a really nice looking race car and it is sold AS IN WHERE IS.
VOLVO 122S – ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESFULL RALLY CAR IN THE 1960th
The Volvo 120 Series known generally as the 'Amazon' gained a well-earned reputation for toughness and longevity. Many would argue that the 120 series really made Volvo's name in world markets. When introduced the car caused some surprises for a relatively small-engine car with a performance matching and in some cases exceeding some sports cars. Volvo designed the Volvo 122S, 2 door sports model with the goal to become a leading force in Rally Sports competitions, subsequently Volvo won the European Rally Championship in 1963 with a special 122S. In 1963 a 122S driven by Tom Trana finished a very close second to Jaguar in the European Touring Car Championship.
