Car description |

1970 Volkswagen Myers Manx Style Dune Buggy convertible. Very clean and runs great. Always garage kept and on battery tender. Runs very well and is quick with a dual Weber carb motor! I bought this on a whim at Monterey Car Week in August, 2014. The gentleman I bought it from said it was built by a retired car builder a few years before from the ground up before he got it, and he kept in at his lake house, but wasn't using it and estimated at the time it had 200 miles on it. Unfortunately there were no receipts for the build or mechanical work provided.
I drove it, liked it, and decided to buy it. We towed it down to Paso Robles, about 100 miles south of Monterey. I estimate I've driven it less than 200 miles, and have towed it about 400 miles. It's very fun to drive, but we have a number of vehicles, and I just don't use it enough. Two years ago my mechanic changed the oil, filter, brake fluid, gear oil, re-packed the wheel bearings, adjusted the valves and dual Weber carburetors, and installed a new brake light switch, wiring harness for towing, and a new master cylinder.
It runs and looks great, very peppy and gets lots of thumbs up. The steering and brakes work very well, and it fires up even after being stored for several months. It shifts well too, but will occasionally pop out of gear on deceleration. It leaks a little gas if it's filled all the way up, so I just fill it about 80% of the way. It has a few very small paint flaws, chips and/or scratches. The odometer isn't working, hence the guessing on mileage, but the other gauges all work. It has a Blaupunkt stereo under a cover with a remote and dual speakers which I never use, comfortable seats with belts, covered storage area behind the seats, off road lights, fire extinguisher and a tow bar. It no longer has the sticker on the front shown in a few of the pictures.
The tires, rims, lights, etc. all look and work almost like new. I was told it is an 1835 cc motor, but I'm not a VW expert, so I don't know the actual displacement, but it runs very strong.
It is currently registered with a clean title and no liens as a 1970 Special Construction vehicle in California, and I just renewed the tags to June, 2021. No smog checks are needed. It's had three mature, attentive owners. It is also insured, and as stated, garage kept.
While it looks and runs great, it is offered as is, where is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Vehicle will not leave premises until all funds have cleared. Thank you for checking out this fun dune buggy!
