Car description |
---|
Up for auction is a 1979 VW Superbeetle convertible in Triple White. I am listing this for a friend; she is the 3rd female owner and has owned it since 2010. It has a CLEAR title & registration in her name. She purchased it from another woman who bought it in 1980 (30yr ownership) from the original female owner when the car was just a year old. It has been garaged its' entire life and NEVER left out in the elements. It has always been a Northern California car here in the Bay Area. Hence it is a rust-free vehicle, seldom seen on these late '70's convertibles.
The odometer reads 17502, but current owner cannot verify if it's 117k or 17k. At time owner purchased in 2010, the car was smogged with mileage stated as 15,822; so the VIR (vehicle inspection report) tells us (and she has told me) owner has driven this car less than 2k in 9yrs of her ownership. The 2nd owner told her that she used the car to simply drive to work 1-2 miles per day when it was nice weather. Her work also had a garage for its' employees so the car was literally never left outside. Anyway, we are not representing the mileage anything other than 117k.
We only have receipts from current ownership. The maintenance performed during her ownership includes the following: 7/2/10 (15,867mlge)-replaced gas tank vent hoses. 6/23/15 (16,905mlge)-front & rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes. 12/14/15 (17,008mlge)-plugs, points, vc gaskets, fuel filter, heater hoses, air filter & air cleaner hose. 4/16/16 (17,035mlge)-replace air flow meter, remove & install intake manifolds and replace gaskets. So as you can see, car driven very little but maintained very well. It is an excellent driving fuel injection car; I have a video of the car idling and can send to anyone interested in it. (NOTE: Should the buyer be from California, we will SMOG the car as required by law once payment is received.)
The body is in outstanding ORIGINAL condition and owner does not think car was ever painted. I cannot find any evidence of a repaint. It has a couple small blemishes, as expected with an original car. The driver side front trunk lid sits a little higher than passenger side; hinge may just need to be adjusted. The dash has some scratches and small cracks on the driver side. Convertible top is in EXCELLENT condition requiring only a good cleaning; the brackets hook to the windshield perfectly and the frame is perfectly straight and rust/rot-free. The rubber gaskets along the frame have some slight cracking. There is NO rust or rot underneath the rear seat or battery box. In fact the original factory matting (material that looks & feels like burlap) is still stuck to the floor board that sits above the battery. The radio does NOT work; all else does. Seats and door panels could use a good cleaning and show a bit of wear. The headlight brow covers were on it when owner bought it. The underside of this car is spotless as far as rust goes, because there is NONE! Only slight surface rust is that on inside edge of front trunk lid (see pic).
Please feel free to email me with any questions at: weborthwick@yahoo.com. If I cannot provide an answer I will consult with the owner and work diligently to get back to you asap. I have a lot more photos that I could not enter here but could easily send via email to you.
A non-refundable payment of $500 via PayPal is due within 24hours of the end of the auction; remainder of payment (NOT by PayPal) is due in full within 7 days of auction by wire transfer, bank/cashier check with verification, or cash. If you need some time to pick up the car, owner can store for a short period of time as long as payment has been received. We live within 20mi of San Francisco airport, and 30mi of San Jose airport. Buyer responsible for shipping but I can meet shipper within 5mi of the car's location in San Carlos, CA. You will be hard pressed to find another car in this authentic and original condition.
If you're looking for one of these limited TRIPLE WHITE last year 1979 convertibles, I would suggest you bid on this one, it's pretty spectacular. Really only needs a new owner and a good detailing.
