Car description

1970 Volkswagen Beetle Sedan

It's time for me to sell my 1970 VW Bug. It is a driver and not a perfect show quality car although I have had many compliments on its excellent condition. It needs to be driven and I just don't find the time to drive it as much as I would like to. It is always garaged, pampered, and covered with a car cover when not in use.

History:

I bought this VW from a private party in Sacramento in October 2011 as a restoration project and spent 3-4 years working on rebuilding the car. It needed a lot of work to bring it back. The result is what you see in the pictures provided. A lot of time and love went into this vehicle. I have pictures of some of the restoration process. There is no history on the car prior to October 2011 other than the PO replaced the original 1500cc single port engine with a 1600cc dual port. This was done by Blake Restoration & Porsche Repair in Sacramento. The PO states he lost all the previous receipts and records. Since October 2011, I have kept meticulous records on everything that was done to the car and I have every receipt for parts. I put all these in a binder in date order for the next owner which could be you if you win my auction! I have tried to replace parts with German parts when I could and, at times, NOS German parts and used parts. German parts are so much better. The following is a partial list of everything that was done to the car between 2011 to the present.

According to a certificate (birth record) I ordered from Stiftung Auto Museum in Germany, the production date of this VW was April 22, 1970. It was shipped to San Francisco California on June 18, 1970. The original color was L620 Savannah Beige and the upholstery was leatherette Nut Brown. Due to the condition of the PO paint job and the old upholstery or what was left of it, I chose to paint the car a two stage L94 Honda Red and installed beige leatherette upholstery.

This is a body and chassis numbers matching car. (See pics). The original engine was discarded by the previous owner and replaced a number of years ago. I believe the transmission is the same transmission that came with the car when new.

Body:

The body was repaired and painted an L94 Honda Red with two stage paint. This includes the primer, base coat, and clearcoat. The job was done by Valley Autobody in Clovis, CA. on 10/24/2013.

All seals around windows, doors, engine compartment and hood have been replaced.

Luggage compartment metal was partially replaced due to rust.

New gas tank installed.

New chrome trim

New running boards

Front and rear windows replaced

Pop-out rear windows installed

Chassis:

The entire passenger floor pan was replaced. The driver's side pan was in good condition.

Both have been sealed and painted.

All 4 shocks replaced.

Brakes are in good condition. Replaced by PO.

Shift rod bushing replaced

Rebuilt brake and clutch pedal assembly

Replaced tires in 2016

Replaced stock wheels with New Riviera custom wheels (Still have stock wheels) in 2013

New steering box

Mechanical:

1600cc dual port engine rebuilt and installed on 3/29/2016 by Hans Huber's German Auto Werk in Clovis, CA. Currently there are 900 miles on this rebuilt engine.

Stock rebuilt distributor and carburetor

Transmission was inspected and oil changed.

New transmission mounts

Drive axle assembly replaced both sides

Interior:

Re-upholstered seats with TMI basket weave leatherette upholstery.

Carpet completely replaced

Headliner replaced

Dash pad replaced

Door panels replaced

Period correct Sapphire AM / FM radio installed

Speedometer replaced with rebuilt speedometer.

Replaced seat belts and hardware

Electrical:

All electrics work. Lights, horn, switches, etc......

Used vintage period correct Bosch Halogen driving/fog lights installed.

Many more parts too numerous to list. I have all receipts and records.

Registration:

The car is registered in California until May of 2020.

I have a clear title in hand

This is a nice driving and running car and gets many waves and smiles from other motorists. It starts right up the first time the key is turned.

Please note that this is a driver quality car and is not perfect or show concourse quality. There are some very slight dings and a few slight paint chips from driving it and due to the fact that the car is almost 50 years old, there is no warranty offered or implied on this car. The car is sold AS-IS.

Comes with:

Car cover

Stainless steel roof rack

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you for your interest in my auction.

Shipping:

New owner will need to arrange shipping of the car or they can pick it up.
