Car description

1970 Volkswagen Beetle 2-Door SedanFor Sale

I acquired this beautiful1970 VW Beetle in the spring of 2014 as a reward for my daughter’s dedicated studies and hard work. She babied her precious “Herbie” for 4 years as a daily driver to-and-from and around college. Unfortunately, a slick talking man came along and convinced her to drop out of college and run away. So instead of presenting her with the title to her “dream car” for graduation, this car is now for sale.

This car looks very much like it did the day I bought it. I believe that the car received a very good amateur restoration prior to my purchase from a local mom-and-pop used car lot. I am told that South Carolina does not require the recording of actual miles on vehicles over 10 years old. There were only about 300 +/- miles showing on the car’s odometer when I bought it -- I was also told that those miles shown represented the miles since the last engine rebuild (and restoration, I assume). There are now more than 15,000 miles showing (see pictures).

Two very minor accidents (literal fender benders) have happened since I bought it but were professionally repaired. I had other repairs done to the car during my ownership (replaced brakes and wheel cylinders, replaced the clutch, replaced tie-rod end and aligned front end, replaced passenger side window regulator, repaired the windshield wipers, etc.) and religiously serviced the car through a quality, local classic VW garage to keep the vehicle reliably roadworthy.

As you can see in the many pictures provided, there is some surface rust on several of the chrome trim pieces. There is also a couple of spots on the driver door where I believe some rust is causing the paint to “bubble up.” The front bumper and headlight trim rings were recently replaced by my preferred local body shop. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to turn this into a 100-point show car. That’s where you hopefully take over.

My daughter, wife, and I have thoroughly enjoyed this solid little car as a daily driver but, as you may imagine, it is heartbreaking for us to have it around, much less drive it, now. We want our “Herbie” to find a good home where “he” will be loved, appreciated, and enjoyed for years to come.

I will answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability in a timely manner. However, I admit that I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to Volkswagens. And, I have passed on all I can recall to you in this write-up.

This used car is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction without notice. If you are the winning bidder, please be aware that you are buying this car “as is” and the purchase of this car includes no warranty whatsoever.

Good luck and happy bidding!
