Car description |

This van is in good shape overall. The body is very solid with only a couple small areas of rust including the driver's rocker and behind the tops of the end caps on the rear bumper, that's it! It runs and drives and has approx 130k miles on it. (odometer needs repair). I've put a lot of money and work into it and now someone can take it to the next level.
I'm going detail any significant issues I can think of. This is a good van with loads of potential. I'm just trying to give an accurate description. I have much more in this vanagon than the starting price and many hours in it myself with more work done than I can list here. It has a clear title and is currently registered in my name.
The van runs and drives but there is a whining noise coming from the rear end after driving for a while. Unless you live locally, I would recommend trailering it because of this until you get a chance to service it. I suspect the whining sound is either a CV joint, a wheel bearing or maybe more likely coming from the transmission. The transmission shifts fine. I believe it still good. I was planning on pulling it and resealing it (eventually the seals go bad and the trans and final drive can swap fluids so it's a good idea to reseal them anyway) and repack the CVs, and repack the wheel bearings and all. I have many hundreds of dollars of parts ready to go with the van to do this work. CV boot kit from vancafe. A full seal kit for the transmission. A FAS transmission cooler ($350 alone) to modernize and protect the cooling system and transmission, etc. It should make a bargain for the right person. If it doesn't sell I will fix everything when I get a chance and list at a higher price.
The engine runs pretty well, the more its driven the better it seems to run. All the lights work other than couple dash lights. The AC system is all there, it definitely needs a new compressor but I believe it will work as I was able to get it to blow cold for a short time. The rear heater needs replaced (cheap). The front heater works but the blower needs replaced. All the locks work except the rear hatch. There are various light dents on the hatch/doors, dings scratches and peeled clear coat (patina!) here and there. The pop top canvas is original and torn but functional. The best are in excellent shape other than the cover that goes over the engine pad.

I made a couple videos of the vanagon. The first is a quick tour and the second is me driving it. I drove it long enough (20 minutes or so) before to get it to start making the "whining" sound. You can hear the sound starting around 1 minute into the driving video. I would link them directly but last time I did that it messed up my formatting and I couldn't fix it.

Thanks for all the interest! Just to reiterate. While this Vanagon is awesome (:)) and does run and drive but it will need going through mechanically. The engine is a little quirky and could use some fine tuning. It's a little sluggish if it's been sitting and the lifters will usually make some noise until you've put a few miles on it (not uncommon). The trans will definitely need removing for resealing or rebuilding. You will need to tow it. Just want to be clear so you know what you are bidding on. Thanks again everybody!
