Relisted due to dead beat buy it now bidder. Now listed no reserve!
1960 VW Karmann Ghia, original, 3 owner survivor car. 43,501 miles, spent much of it's life in storage. The story - originally bought in Texas, the first owner's wife wanted it to be a "shinier black", so it was painted black again early in it's life. Car was stored, and then sold to the second owner in MA. Car spent a lot of time in storage there as well and not driven winters. Car was then brought to WI by the 3rd owner (who mostly stored it as well), who we purchased the car from. It was going to be a project car for Ben's VeeDub Shop, but the shop is moving and we decided to offer it to a new home.
The car has always been well maintained, and only the tires, distributor, belt and one tail light lens are not original..along with the door panels and possibly the carpet being replaced at some point. Still 6v and numbers matching 1192cc motor. It has never needed work while in the previous owners hands, but has spongy brakes and a leaking fuel reserve petcock valve that should be looked at. Car runs out of gas can, and could be driven onto a trailer (trailering is recommended). It also has a slightly cracked intake manifold which could be repaired, but another correct manifold is included.
Exterior wise, the biggest blemish is the driver's door. In storage in a couple years ago, the drivers door was tweaked backwards causing the damage shown pics. It still opens/shuts/latches/window rolls down. The door is clean otherwise, so would be worth repairing the original door if possible. The paint on the car still shines great, but is starting to crack here and there. Most of the weatherstripping is in great shape, but the rear quarter window seals could be replaced.
Car is amazingly unmolested, original and rust free in the common ghia problem areas, and the nose/headlight buckets are pristine. One dent in the very lower front apron that can't be seen from above, and easily fixable.More pics available.
$1000 Deposit due in 48 hours, no warranties - car is sold as is, buyer responsible for shipping/transport.
