Car description |
---|
I bought this neat VW from a neighbor of the original owners in Kerville, TX who sold it for the original owners. The story he told me was this car was purchased new in Miami by his then PanAm pilot neighbor as a gift for his wife in 79. They moved to Texas in 1983. I did not get maintenance records with the car but I did get the original window sticker and strangely two different order forms from the selling dealer in Miami with different dates and slightly different prices. My guess is it was handed down from wife to a kid to drive to high school - there is a high school parking permit sticker on the back window for 87-88. I bet it then didn't get much use after that driver left it at home. You can see the title is still in the name of the purchaser from Holiday Volkswagen in Miami FL.
I brought the car home to Dallas on my car trailer knowing it would need some work. I installed a new brake master and my mechanic did some other brake work. I installed a used battery and changed the oil and did some other small things mainly lots of cleaning before I got distracted by a more recent acquisition. I do that much too often.
As you can see the car was canyon brown when new but was repainted the white you see. Not an expensive job but it looks good. There is a dent on the back edge of the driver's door. I think the guy I got it from did that moving it to his house for the sale. The car is hard to start when cold without a small shot of ether. The aftermarket radio works but it is a joke. I have not tried to get the AC operational but the blower works and I think I remember the compressor turns. There is still a belt on it anyway. I've driven the car on several occasions but it is not legal so my experience is limited. I did have it up to highway speeds and I know the odometer works. It is surprisingly fun to drive for a slow car. I know it needs front struts badly and the tires are old. It has a jack and a spare. The dashpad is badly cracked, common due to the intense TX sun. The engine smokes as you might expect and the exhaust stinks like a vintage diesel. There is some sort of electrical short causing the glow plug light to only come on at starting it you hold the shifter just right...likely the hard starting issue. The oil pressure idiot light flickers on and off according to the shifter position too and one can hear electrical relays clicking according to the shifter position. It is unsettling but does not impact the driving of the car. The headliner is nice. The vinyl seats are dirty but intact, only the driver's seat is worn. The body is straight and rust free (no hail damage which is common here).
I've tried to give an honest description of the car. Any questions just ask.
The car can sit here for a limited time waiting on your shipper if paid for in full. I will cooperate with your shipper but I will not arrange shipping. Check my feedback, thanks for looking!
