Up for sale is this vintage 1977 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel. Owned by an Iowa farmer who drove it for 14 years then parked it in a machine shed where it sat for 21 years. His grandson extracted it and returned to running/driving condition. I bought it from him in 2012. Vehicle had 86,841 miles when I purchased it. It now has 91,460. Engine is all original and starts and runs well. I have checked gas mileage twice since owning. First check was 49.6 MPG, second was 49.3 MPG and that was mostly on hilly county roads. Paint is original and car has had no major repairs in it's lifetime. No extreme modifications. Farmer put on a water temperature gauge. I had a manual toggle switch installed for glow plug activation. Grandson installed a new (rebuilt) fuel injection pump and new glow plugs along with several other replacements such as tires, wiper blades, hatch cylinder closer, etc. I have had a Volkswagen shop install a complete new exhaust system and new shocks. So, this great old survivor is road worthy and ready for daily use. Please advise if you have any questions. Comes with title, original manuals and repair/maintenance book. Pick up only. Buyer hauls or arranges for pick-up. It has no air.
