Hello fellow Westy lovers! My wife Donna and I are selling our beloved 1986 Wesfalia Camper Vanagon. We call it our WestyBus. We have owned it since 2007 and have enjoyed her immensely. Donna and I both own and operate our own businesses and we need some business CA$H. It is time for another family to enjoy her Awesomeness! The WestyBus has ~ 247K miles on her from 1986. I will now try to explain her greatness as follows:
Drive Train: Shortly after purchase I blew up the Wasserboxer motor. We replaced that motor with a Tiico Conversion which we really like. I researched all of the conversions and decided to keep her Volkswagen. For those unfamiliar with that particular conversion, it is a brand new, 2.4 liter "jetta" crate motor with ~145hp with A/C. Our WestyBus now goes 90 MPH if needed and accelerates uphill which the old motor could not do. When driven properly she gets about 18-22 MPG. The motor has about 25K pampered miles on her. The conversion was performed by Steve and Steve @ Space Coast Imports located in Melbourne Florida. This is the most well respected VW shop in our area and they kick ass. Those guys know all about our WestyBus. Space Coast Imports have done all the major work on our WestyBus. We have all the receipts as well. At the time of the conversion, the Transmission was serviced, new Clutch, Pressure Plate and Master Cylinder. Everything works great! In addition, there are plastic bushings on each end of the shifting mechanism; both of those are brand new as well. This really insures easy and smooth shifting. Side note: On one of our trips we were getting fuel at a truck stop and the trucker next to us came over and said "I've been trucking a long time and you are the first Volkswagen Van that has ever passed me!" Pretty cool!!!J
Body: We just got her repainted 1986 VW white. I will attach a few photos of the repairs. All the rust was repaired with new metal panels and all the little dents I put in her are gone. When we decide to sell, we thought the next owners deserve a beautiful ride just like enjoyed. Tom@RattleCans Customs located here in Melbourne did an awesome job. If you ever want something painted or customed out...he's the man and worth the trip to Melbourne Florida. The fiberglass topper has been redone as well and it has been done in a similar material that you will find in truck beds and will last a really, really long time. It looks great too! (We haven't put the Westfalia stickers back on yet because the material still has to cure.) As you can see, all the rubber was removed prior to paint and all the bumpers, handles and other miscellaneous parts and pieces were all blacked out. This is the best this bus has ever looked! New OEM windshield (much better quality than the ones you get at those in home replacement places), and, we just had all the window tinting redone by Jeff @ Sunset Tinting here in Melbourne Florida. He does an amazing job on all of our vehicles! The canvas tent has been replaced by the previous owner and it is perfect shape. The material used was kind of like a waterproof backpack or parachute type material. You can see more in the photos and video. The shop that did the new tent said, "Never again, too damn hard!" In the summertime, we unzipped the front window and set a window A/C unit on the topper and you could literally hang meat inside after a few minutes. Staying cool was not an issue, (and we live in Florida!)
Interior: The interior is original and in great condition. I've added new curtains that I had made custom. All the appliances work, however we really never used the stove because I always brought a grill and an electric skillet when camping. The propane tank is still full from when I bought it. The fridge works really well too, but we would also bring a giant cooler. To be honest, there are way better refrigerators out there. I just never felt the need to replace it. I've seen several refrigerator conversions that I was looking into, but, nope. I found the only microwave that fits in the storage cabinet to the right of the fridge, and it works like a champ! Any needed small parts or accessories I always bought from GoWesty. The bottom bed is what we used for sleeping and would store all our camping supplies up on the top bed area. We bought a full size Tempur-Pedic roll out mattress and always slept on that. Super Comfy! We have the ladder that goes to the top bunk, but, we never had to use it.
Wheels and Tires: The wheels have been upgraded to 15" and the tires are Michelin HydroEdge 215/70R15. I did a lot of research on what tires to use these vehicles because of the load/weight issue. I wore out several sets of Goodyear Tires before I found these. Plenty of tread left...nearly new! I've also replaced the shocks and springs with the recommended setup that GoWesty sells. As you can see she sets up a bit higher and you can tow a small trailer if needed. The GoWesty bumpers I've added has a bumper hitch which we also use for our bike racks. The bike rack goes with her as well.
ebay Notes: We are selling our WestyBus AS-IS, Where-Is condition with NO WARRANTIES, expressed or implied. She is 31 years old and although looks and runs good, it is still a used vehicle and not showroom new. I have represented the vehicle to the best of my knowledge and will include any and all paperwork and receipts we have acquired over the years. We are hardworking and honest people and hope that whoever gets the winning bid is as well.
Our WestyBus is also advertised outside of ebay and seller reserves right to end the auction early and cancel any and all bids if sold outside of ebay. Any and all interested bidders may contact us for a buy it now if they cannot wait until the end of the auction.
As you can see, it looks as though I've never sold or bought on ebay. Not true. 12yrs back prior to our businesses; I had an ebay account with 100 or so purchases or sells and 100% approval. Ebay redid their accounts some years back and I got lost in the shuffle. I have sold one of my cars on ebay way back when and it went well...........very smooth really. Whom ever gets winning bid can work together with Donna and I..........we will figure it out.
Here is a video on our bus.....my apologies, it's not very good and I miss speak severval times however you will get the scoop......
