1979 TOYOTA FJ40 - Land Cruiser
This cruiser was restored over the past year to the original condition. (I have a full photo documented restoration from start to finish over 240 photos) I have bought, sold, restored Land Cruisers for the past 25 years and this is my latest off frame restoration. I am the third owner of this Cruiser; it has +/- 89,000 actual miles. The 1979 and newer FJ40 Land Cruisers are better, for they have 4 speed transmissions and 3.73 gearing (better for road use), the fuel cell is outside of body tub (earlier models fuel cell is under passenger seat inside body tub), they have front disc brakes to name a few. I have a clear VA title. Most of the original rear section of the body was rusty, so this Cruiser was restored with a ¾ aluminum body tub built by "Aqualu Industries" of Canada. (I have restored three previous Cruisers with this method. (No more body rust !!). BTW- this is my eighth FJ40 off frame restoration. Most everything restored and/or replaced with quality replacement parts with regard to authenticity.
Please see list below of most of the work that was done during the restoration process:
Body/Paint/Exterior
Original Toyota "Olive Green" with PPG single stag paint ¾ Aqualu Industries aluminum body tub New front fenders Rust free side doors, rear ambulance style doors, top sides (sourced in Alabama years ago) Original front cowl section, windshield frame, hood, side aprons, grill were in very good condition New "Toyota" emblems (not cheap repo's) New hood hooks, w/s hold down hooks, w/s pads (all stainless steel fasteners) New mirrors New rear reflectors New windshield and gasket New seals, gaskets, weather stripping (OEM style, more
Engine/Drivetrain89,000 original miles engine, engine tested and determined in good condition New plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, all fluids and filters changed New air filter New smog pump New fan belt and smog pump belt New clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, rear main seal; New radiator, radiator hoses, hose clamps, radiator cap Original carburetor rebuilt by " Landcruiserparts.net" New original style fuel cell, fuel sending unit, fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel filter, gas ca, more
ElectricalNew "Optima" yellow top battery New battery cables New starter New front and rear parking/turn signal lights New rear side marker light Brakes New brake master cylinder New front brake rotors, calipers, brake pads, hardware kits New rear brake cylinders (all 4), brake shoes, spring kits, brake drums turned All new brake hoses and lines
SuspensionNew shocks All poly bushings used in shackles, etc. New front/rear shackles New front/rear greasable spring pins New steering stabilize, New tie rod ends and front end alignment New steering coupler (rag joint, more
InteriorNewly upholstered front and rear seats, new original type headliner, new oem type gasket between fiberglass top and top side panels, new shift boots, shift knobs, sun visors, windshield and gasket, door handles, door cards, door window cranks, new original type weatherstripping on all doors, side door window felts (inner and outside), more
Wheels and Tires original steel wheels sand blasted and powder coated, new BFG All Terrain AT2's, size: 31x10.50x15, new Toyota hub caps, new chrome lug nuts
This is an original restoration of a 1979 FJ40, with all emissions intact and working, new smog pump and cat. converter. Cruiser runs as good as it looks.
Thanks for looking and touch base with any questions.
