Originally purchased in 2006. Engine was rebuilt in Denver just before I purchased it. Rebuild included de-smog to the engin, new headers, and since I've replaced many other components. Truck has been mainly used on road and has currently been my daily driver and runs extremely well. Has no issues going 75 mph down the freeway.
Replaced these items: clutch cylinder, slave cylinder, master break cylinder, carburetor (after market asin replica with de-smog, k & n air filter, newer cap and rotor, spark plug wires, radiator replaced with FJ62 radiator, interstate battery, purchased a refurbished steering gear and installed, tie rod ends have all been replaced, tires - destination AT with about 10,000 miles on the, front calipers, Alcan springs replaced rear springs have extra load for hauling, electrical for trailer adaptor recently replaced, new stereo system with amp and added blue tooth microphone, GPS system, single stage paint job done fall of 2016 (a 1970's FJ40 Blue, gas tank with sending unit (sending unit still does not register in gas gauge). New headlights and grill. I rebuilt the front axle including bearings, seals (Marlin Crawler), and the whole works. Rear axle rebuilt two years ago including bearings and all new rear brake shoes/hardware/and drums. Thrush muffler installed last year.
Fluids all well maintained and in excellent condition. Drivers' side front seat has the most wear and tear with a tear. The rest of the seats are well maintained. Consistently gets 15-16 mpg. Not registered in the Denver area. Will not pass emissions test.
What it needs: The engine does have some leaking, as well as the transfer case (pinion seal...), A/C currently not working but should be an easy fix and left rear wheel brake cylinder recently started leaking (don't have time to replace, but is a simple job). Paint peeled due to a gas spill right near the gas tank. Have the color code if you want to buy touch up paint (a 1970's FJ40 Blue)
Reason I'm selling it is due to changes in life work/marriage/space. It was a difficult decision to either purchase a newer vehicle or invest in my truck. The final decision is to let it go. As many who are selling their cruisers, sad to see it go! This has been my baby for over ten years. I hope this goes to someone who will be able to enjoy it for many more years to come. I would trust this truck to take me to Alaska and back over and over.
