Car description |
---|
1956 STUDEBAKER,GOLDEN HAWK, 2 Door Coupe, automatic, with restored interior 5 years ago. Car would need a good washing and vacuum cleaning as it is sitting under a tree since last 2 months after taking her out of the garage where it sat for about 2 years.
Runs as it should without any problems when driven few days ago for gassing it up!
Front seat by mistake got cut and a small portion of foam can be seen from the cut which can be repaired for around 50 dollars according to the local Oxnard upholstery shop. Other than that, it has excellent interior including new headliner, carpets, and door panels, as can be seen from the photographs attached.Runs great. Last time driven from Santa Barbara, California to Long Beach, Cal. Engine, transmission, suspension, everything works great! No leaks, no oil burning, no problems with the shifting.. none!
Started the car today with no problem, added some gas.
Similar cars are seen on eBay going between $22,000 to $49,000. Why so much of a price difference? Beats me coz to make this car won't cost more than $5000 to be ready for car shows. Entire car including the engine compartment needs good cleaning. Other than that, everything is great and works like it should. It can be driven off from where it sits. Would require registration and transfer before driving. Interior of the carpet shows some junk laying around that needs to be cleaned up and vacuumed!
It is aNO RESERVE auction. Highest bidder wins the car. Despite my describing the car, I am not giving any misleading information here. So please use your best judgement to determine the actual condition of this car using your best resources.I recommend that any used car being bought without seeing it, should be inspected by a car mechanic. There are several reputable independent mechanics shops who can provide pre-purchase inspection. I can have the car driven to such a shop of your choice, if you select them, which will be at your expense. Normally such pre purchase inspections run anywhere between $125 to $250. It's your call. You can Google independent mechanic shop in 91360 and 91361 zip codes where I can have the car taken for such inspection per your instructions to the mechanic. You or your representative is welcome to inspect the car along with road test before you start bidding on the car.
As a standard practice, the car will be sold on AS IS and WHERE IS basis without any expressed or implied warranties, guarantees, assurances, or other forms of expressions of the overall condition of the car. It is the BUYER's responsibility to ascertain the condition of the car regardless of seller's expressions of the condition of the car. Seller is not a mechanic and cannot technically discuss any details of the technical issues of this car. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the Buyer/Bidder must make his/her efforts to evaluate and inspect this car before bidding.
A non-refundable deposit of $500 will be required payable via Paypal. If you don't have a Paypal account, other methods are welcome as long as the payment can be received by the seller within 24 hours after the end of the auction. Remaining balance can be paid via bank to bank transfer within 3 days after the end of the auction. Buyer may pay the entire amount via PayPal at Buyer's option to pay the fees of Paypal for such transfer of funds.
This auction is a NO RESERVE auction without any refunds or returns.
For any questions or additional photographs of any particular areas, please send messages via eBay messages. I check ebay at least twice a day and I'll get back to you asap.
I have the clear California title that I will mail at your request upon receipt of full payments. I am a car collector with large number of classic cars. I am reducing the collection and this is one of the reason I'm not putting any Reserve price or Buy it Now price. Whatever the market brings, I'll sell it like I've done it on other cars I've sold on eBay!
Good luck with the auction!

I have received many ebay messages about the engine size, type and make. I have never owned or wanted to own a Studebaker. This car was bought for a good friend of mine from Toronto, Canada. Who later could not pay for it and it sat with me since I bought it approx. sometime in August or September of 2015. It was trucked from Northern California. I renewed the registration and only drove this car, may be, not more than 100 miles. It was way to fast for me so I parked the car in my large building where I keep my other classic cars. I have taken some more close up pictures of the engine and the VIN plates that I will post them once have it on my flash drive from my wife's phone. Two ID plates attached to the car read the following: On Driver's side door wall there's a chromed square place reads 6800176. There's another plate mounted on top of the firewall on passenger side of the outside wall where trunk rests. This plate reads 565-K7 281D. I have no idea what it means. I will post these pictures and the side pictures of the car sometime today. Some folks have raised the issue that the hood is from 1957 or 58 car. I have absolutely no idea and don't know anything about the Studebaker. All I know that after I got the car for this friend of mine from Canada, I liked the looks, the sides and the the hood of the car. I drove the car approx. a 100 miles and parked it. It ran great but too fast. I don't know the type of the size of the engine. I tried looking for any markings and did not find any visible numbers of the engine even after I took the air cleaner out. Nothing tells me what kind or type of an engine it is. I own few classic Chrysler Imperials and Cadillacs but their engines look a lot bigger than this one. So all I can say is to the buyers, to determine for yourself from the photographs about the engine and the rest. I will also post the photo of the title which confirms what I stated in this auction. Being a total idiot about not knowing the Studebaker, I am selling the car on the basis of the title. Rest is up to the buyers. I cannot say with any sense of surety that the car is original as the factory made it. It is what it is and the buyer must buy it based on the photographs, the title and the details stated herein. I DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS CAR IS ORIGINAL AS MANUFACTURED BY STUDEBAKER. IT MAY PERHAPS BE MODIFIED BUT I CANNOT TELL.

After couple of Studebaker experts who pointed out a couple of discrepencies in the description of this auction, I tried to verify such mistakes that I could have made in describing the car's certain peculiarities, I totally failed to see those when I re-inspected the car. With a point of view of a non-Studebaker collector, I really can't determine how the factory original Studebaker Golden Hawk looked like. As far as I am concerned, it is one hell of a beautiful looking classic 50's American collector's car. You can't find a Honda or a Toyota for the price of this car. So those who care to drive a real classic that looks stunning and really wanna drive a classic and be different than great many regular cars, then just buy it for the pleasure of driving a real American classic instead of trying to compare true collector's classic show cars to win awards. This a car for someone to enjoy driving a very good looking real American classic. Those who are interested in buying this car for car shows, please take the initiative to check the car for its originality that I am not guarantee as I am not a Studebaker expert. For all I care is to inform the prospective buyers to what I know about the car as it shows and as the legal ownership title says. Please bid with an understanding that I have tried my level best to describe the details of this car to the best of my abilities and not as an expert. Thank you for your interest and thank you to all those who have so far educated me a bit about the Studebaker intricacies and peculiarities. It goes to show how little one knows despite all the lifetime experience. Good luck with your biddings!

Through a very generous contribution of Studebaker Car Collectors/Registry office, I have received the history of this car's factory info. I can't tell what it is saying but to those who are Studebaker experts can decodify the info. I will try to put another image once I know how to do it. This is to clarify more details about this Studebaker. Image of this invoice can be found in the photograph section of this auction titled "Studebaker Passenger Car Order". I hope it helps!

I have added in the picture file one more factory receipt of this car for further clarification. 56Studebaker owner's club has the details of this car. Successful bidder is encouraged to contact and perhaps join the 56Studebaker owners club for continued updates on all 56 Studebakers.

Some bidders wanted me to post the copy of California title. It's there. Back of it is all blank but there's no more space for additional pictures to post. Although I have received the offer to sell the car outside eBay, but I'm sorry I can't do it. I'm selling most of my classic cars to minimize the collection of cars and other stuff accumulated in last 40 odd years. All must go and the fastest way to do is to offer good deals for the buyers and this is why I am not using the RESERVE or BUY IT NOW options. Have no time to waste!! Thanks for your interest and good luck with your biddings!
