1965 427 Shelby Cobra - Factory Five Mark IIIFully Equipped ready to drive, with extra parts - including Hard Top!
If you are looking for a Shelby Cobra, keep in mind that there is a big difference between those built on an old donor Mustang and a tight budget versus ones built with the right parts and experience.
This car was built by an engineer with all new very high quality parts, and has very low millage. This is a non-donor build. Everything in the car is new or rebuilt with the exception of the Mustang rear axle. I live in Virginia with cold winters so a classic air heater and hardtop with side windows were installed. Also I have tonneau cover for summer use. This car could be driven year-round. Originally, it had manual brakes and steering (as do most of the Cobras listed). However, if you drive in traffic or around town, you will want power steering and brakes, which were installed. This car has always been garage kept, never driven in rain or snow.
Engine:This car contains a completely rebuilt 351 Windsor .04 overbore equipped with an Edelbrock performance package, which includes aluminum heads and manifold Holley carb (I replaced the Edelbrock carb 2016), performer cam, M.S.D. distributor and electronic ignition. Engine combo states it produces 400 H.P. and 412 pounds of torque (refer to Edelbrock website for demo results), I believe this to be low. This is more power than you can use on the street. The engine runs great and has been completely dependable. The engine compartment is also finished off with stainless steel/chrome pulleys, etc. No leaks or problems. Ran one time in 1/4 mile at MIR Dragway and I let up on the accelerator after 1/8 mile and the car still ran a 12.3 in the 1/4. Track told me I was not able to run again due to ET and safety (needs full roll bar according to them at the time).
Cooling:Is by new Afco aluminum radiator plus thermostatically-controlled electric fan and separate transmission oil cooler. This car has never overheated.
Exhaust:Factory Five headers and side pipes with stainless steel cover. The sound has been mellowed down with the addition of extra glass packs which are easily removed if you want it loud.
Electronics:All new wiring harness throughout. Full set of AutoMeter Phantom gauges (2015) plus transmission oil temperature and pressure gauge. Alpine amp and speakers. This car has classic air heater plus separate fresh-air blowers and vents for the driver and passenger sides.
Transmission:B&M street strip 4-speed A.O.D. transmission with added Lentech valve body and ratchet shifter. This transmission works great with 4:11 rear gears. Neck Snapping and tire burning acceleration, yet produces 2,000 rpm at 65 mph with the electric overdrive.
Brakes:Power booster and C.N.C dual master cylinder with balance bar for front and rear proportioning. You can adjust the balance from the driver's seat! Mustang Cobra calipers (red) and Mustang rear calipers. Tires have 80%-90% tread mounted on Mustang Cobra wheels.
Interior:All new in 2015. Cobra race seats, new dash by Casey Design Products, new carpet (even in trunk), center leather redone, all new gauges. Hidden speakers under front dash.
