Car description |
---|
Autokraft purchased AC Cars Ltd. in collaboration with Ford in 1987, and with the original tooling acquired from AC Bristol produced approximately 480 AC MKIV Cobra's. Of these, only 26 were manufactured to Lightweight specification, of which less than half were left-hand drive U.S. specification examples. These are highly sought after today.
AC Cars Ltd. first offered the hand-built AC Cobra MKIV in Lightweight form to the American market in March 1993 after completing North American EPA and DOT Certification requirements, at a fixed price of $115,000, to include the purchasers own individual color specification. This is one of those cars, built in June 1993, and ordered in the sinister combination of Black coachwork over a Black leather interior, with a Black convertible top, tonneau cover, side windows, and matching Black Halibrand wheels.
Due to the fact that Autokraft used the original jigs and dies obtained from the old Thames Ditton factory to stamp and hand-roll aluminum Cobra bodies, this cars coachwork is nearly identical to the ‘60's Shelby Cobra MKIII series with its short nose, as opposed to the long nose, non Lightweight, Autokraft Cobras. Power is courtesy of a Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) performance-built 5.0 liter V8 engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The car offered here has only covered a mere 3,020 miles since new, and presents in both concours show, and event-ready original condition. A recent comprehensive mechanical preparation and concours level detail was performed by a marque specialist, and the sale includes service records, and unused spare wheel and tire, tool kit, spare bulb set, tonneau cover and storage bag, driver and passenger side windows and storage bag, convertible top and bows, tire jack and hammer, optional leather trimmed spare steering wheel, and headrests.
Currently titled and registered in California, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a fast appreciating MKIV Cobra that legitimately wears the fabled AC badge. Available for viewing in Northern California. Telephone (408) 656-1491 with questions.
