1968 GTO CONVERTIBLE GARAGE FIND, ONE OWNER, HIGHLY OPTIONED
RUST FREE ARIZONA CAR YES -- ONE OWNER
Up for auction is a ONE OWNER, MATCHING NUMBERS, REAL 1968 GTO CONVERTIBLE.
This GTO's story:This vehicle has been owned since birth by a family friend. I just never knew that she had it. My friend Eleanor is 75 years old. I had been to her house several times over the years never havingany idea that she had an old car in the garage. A couple weeks ago someone mentioned Eleanor's GTO. What GTO? Eleanor has a GTO? What year? I wanna see it.
So I call Eleanor and riddle her with questions. She isn't much of a car person and she hadn't driven it for several years so many of the answers about condition and such went without any good answers. Can I come over and look at it? Oh, that would be great. I'd like someone to tell me what I should do with it. Well, uh...ok. I'll be right over.
When I got there, with some fiddling, we were able to get the garage door open. There, sitting on 3 flat tires with a prodigious blanket of dust over it was this 68 GTO Convert. So how long have you had it? Since November 1967. It was one of the first 68 GTOs. My dad bought it for me from Ace Wilson himself at Royal Pontiac in Royal Oak. Eleanor and her family were snow birds with a home in Arizona. That's where the car went and lived most its life.
Ok the car... So it needed some cleanup and a little TLC. It has lots of little door dings and such. I told her I was the guy for this car and we settled on a price. I picked it up with an air tank and a trailer. After a bit of a bath and a check-over I decided to see if it would fire up. I charged the battery and gave it a whirl. cranked fine but wouldn't go withouta shot of fuel. After a new fuel pump and a carb kit, it ran surprisingly well. Starts easily, automatic choke works well (rare). Runs smooth, no smoke, awesome.
The rest was a bunch of cleaningand bulb replacement. The interior is nearly perfect - absolute survivor. I have found no real rust (other than the superficial orange bleeding through the oxidized paint) Underneath is clean with original paint on all the floors. The frame has some light scale as they weren't coated from the factory. It has a newer factory-style exhaust.
The car runs and drives nice. Steering is tight and straight. Very smooth ride with no rattles (really). Engine runs as it should, very powerful, burns rubber with ease. Idles smoothly at 500 rpm in drive. Sounds awesome, deep growl.
Top goes up and down like new, all power windows work as do all the switches. Hide-a-way lights work nicely. Under the hood it's very original with no monkey business, just proper maintenance. All the chrome and stainless is prettyamazing.
The car definitelyneeds a paint job (lots of little dings). The top has a 2.5 inch tear (see pics).
This vehicle comes with lots of documentation from birth, Full service records showing progression of mileage, owners documentation, original keys (both sets).
The title is still in the original owner's (Eleanor) name in case the new owner wants to be listed as the second owner of the car. I can easily get a fast title in 2 days if the winning bidder prefers. Your call.

I do not do this for a living. I'm just trying to get this rare musclecar into the hands of someone who will appreciate it and bring it back to its glory. Please respect that. Please CALL 248-672-0538 with any questions prior to bidding. I will not disclose the reserve price - if you are serious about the car please bid. Don't if you cannot afford the car or do not have the funds available to follow thru with the transaction. Don't if you have negative feedback from a previous Ebay Motors auction!
Terms of Sale:This auction is a legally binding contract, DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU INTEND TO FOLLOW THROUGH AND PAY FOR THE VEHICLE. This auction costs me money to list, so don't bid if you can't afford to pay for the car. Should the high bidder back out, EBay will be contacted. Non-paying bidders will not be tolerated, so if you are prone to buyer’s remorse or are inexperienced with buying cars on EBay, please have the car inspected prior to bidding.
Funds to be paid via cashier's check or bank wire transfer. All cashier's checks must clear prior to vehicle shipment. Full payment is to be received within 5 days.
