Vintage Motorcars is proud to present this 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Y81 Special Edition Tribute - AKA...Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am.
In a nutshell... this car is in EXCELLENT CONDITION INSIDE AND OUT. The odometer shows just over 81,000 miles, and I believe it to be true. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive history at an absolute fraction of the price.
This car started its life as a standard Trans Am, and the Special Edition appearance has been added. This Trans Am is mechanically sound. The numbers matching Pontiac 400 was recently rebuilt to the tune of $3,500 in receipts, and shows less than 100 miles since. This car now starts, idles, drives and stops like it looks! Photos and videos do not convey how truly nice this car is in person.
The paint scheme including the screaming chicken and the gold pin striping and gold accented grills are all part of the Special Edition appearance option. The Starlight Black paint is very straight, and looks much better in person than in photos. All the gaps are correct, and there is a deep, mirror shine on all the sheet metal. Look as closely as you want... you will not find any rust. The 15" snowflake wheels look outstanding, and really set this car off!
The interior shows exceptionally well, and perfectly complements the exterior. The seats sit very well with nice, firm foam padding underneath the black seat covers. All the interior surfaces are in beautiful shape. Nothing seems out of place. The dash is original, and in excellent shape. The tachometer and speedometer work, but the water gauge does not. This car does not run hot... I would drive it anywhere. This is a factory A/C car, but is not currently working. I believe it needs a new compressor. All the parts are in place, and would be an easy fix for someone that really wants working A/C. For your convenience; this car also comes equipped with power windows, power steering and power brakes.
The car has been gone through in our shop, and passed with flying colors. All the lights and signals work; the wipers work; the horn works; all the suspension has been checked or replaced; the brakes are virtually new; the tires are almost new. I could go on and on.... The car only needs a new owner!
The second generation Trans Am's are screaming up the collectability charts in value and demand. Smokey and the Bandit cars like this one lead the pack. I feel the real SE Trans Am's are far too valuable to drive on a regular basis, and the TV auction market has priced them out of reach of most buyers. Call NOW to put this Trans Am in YOUR driveway!
