In September 1968, D.B. Whitmore, a newly minted attorney from Wisconsin walked into Pioneer Motors in Lancaster, WI with a simple order..."I want the fastest GTO Convertible you can sell me...with a hood tach, a 4 speed, and rally gauges...and I want it NOW". Nothing on the showroom floor fit the bill, so D.B. ordered this car, the way he wanted it, in the colors he wanted it.
In early December of 1969 he picked up his "go-fast" GTO Convertible and put it right it the garage toavoid the Southern Wisconsin snow. In the spring of 1970, he went prowling the streets, more for women in lieu of a drag race, according to his recollection. Always garage kept, and at the dealer every 2 weeks for "something" according to records. He complained the car ran warm in traffic, and to avoid a lawsuit, Pioneer instead a service replacement motor in 1970.
DB kept the car in his garage over the years, with a growing family and practice in the way, the car didn't get used much, accumulating some 79,000 miles in almost 50 years. D.B. did nothing but keep the car up, and in 2014, upon retirement, spent $10,000 on repainting the car, and another $12,500 in resealing the motor, valve job, and general, sprucing up of his GTO that he planned to drive around the country and wanted "dead" reliable.
Unfortunately Mr. Whitmore passed away before he was able to bring his dreams to fruition. Maybe you can field those dreams?
I purchased the car from his estate and have driven it to get ice cream, one show whereI won "Crowd Favorite" and another where I won "Best Pontiac", but, life gets in the way...and goals change, so I am letting her go.
This car is investment grade in every sense of the word. Everything works, the car is well sorted out, straight as a arrow, and needs NOTHING. Zero rust, bondo, panel replacement, etc. The car runs and drives like a brand new GTO.
The option list! 4 Speed, Posi, Hood Tach, Rally Cluster!
I have the original spare tire, and jack, it was removed for the pictures. I also have the original top boot.
Itshould be noted that this car has 100% original interior, including the carpet, and shows awesome! the top is ORIGINAL, and veryserviceable!
This is a true time capsule and a very honest piece.
You can look at my feedback, and I have sold all but this in my GTO collection, because it was the best, and my favorite...it will be hard to let her go, but...life goes on.
My phone number is 630 425-8567 you can feel free to call me about my GOAT. I've owned more of these than Pioneer Pontiac, so I know enough about them to answer any of your questions. Payment due within 72 hours of auction close.
Idon'tneed to sell this car, but I will.
The car was recently appraised at $57500, but that number is arbitrary and I am realistic in my expectations.
The car is for sale on other venues and forums, and this auction can and will be ended in the event I sell the car outright.
