Car description

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS THIS RARE 1977 PONTIAC LE MANS CAN AM. BRIEF HISTORY OF THESE CARS.... ONLY 1300 OR SO WERE EVER MADE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE REAR SPOILER MOLD GOT DAMAGED WHILE THEY WERE BEING PRODUCED BY A SUB CONTRACTOR FOR GM WHO TOOK THE ORDINARY LE MANS AND TURNED THEM INTO CAN AMS. GM COULD NOT WAIT FOR THE NEW SPOILER MOLD TO BE MADE WHICH WOULD TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS SO THEY DECIDED TO SCRAP ADDITIONAL PRODUCTION OF THIS PARTICULAR CAR. APPARENTLY ONLY ABOUT 300 ARE CURRENTLY ON THE ROAD WORLD WIDE SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S SO RARE. THIS CAR RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT. VERY SMOOTH BRAKE SYSTEM THANKS TO FRONT DISC BRAKES. ORIGINAL 400 ENGINE RUNS GREAT AND IS STRONG WITH ORIGINAL HIGH PERFORMANCE HEADS. PREVIOUS OWNER INSTALLED ELECTRONIC IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR SYSTEM, EDELBROCK ALUMINUM INTAKE AND CARBURETOR WHICH GIVES THE ENGINE BETTER, QUICKER PERFORMANCE. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SMOOTHLY. EXHAUST SOUNDS GREAT, IS IN GOOD SHAPE AND STILL HAS THE TRANS AM STYLE DOUBLE TIPPED SHINY CHROME TAIL PIPES. ORIGINAL RARE CAN AM CENTER CAPS ON HONEYCOMB TRANS AM RIMS HAVE WEAR BUT STILL LOOK PRETTY GOOD CONSIDERING THEY'RE 40 YEARS OLD. TIRES ARE IN GOOD SHAPE AS WELL. INTERIOR REALLY IS IN PRETTY NICE OVERALL CONDITION. CENTER CONSOLE LOOKS GOOD, NEW CARPET INSTALLED, SEATS ARE VERY COMFORTABLE AND FREE OF TEARS. THE THIN STRIPS THAT RUN ALONG THE SEAMS HAVE SOME LITTLE WEAR SPOTS ON THEM BUT THIS SHOULD BE EASY TO TOUCH UP. DASH HAS A FEW MINOR CRACKS BUT NOTHING SERIOUS. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS IN GOOD SHAPE. MOST GAUGES WORK WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE TACHOMETER. I THINK THAT IT JUST NEEDS TO BE PROPERLY HOOKED UP TO THE ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR. STEREO HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO A NICE AM/FM/CD SOUND SYSTEM. DOOR PANELS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE WITH SLIGHT EDGE WEAR AT THE TOP SIDE EDGE. SIDE WINDOWS HAVE OLD TINT ON THEM THAT NEEDS REPLACING. WINDSHIELD HAS A COUPLE OF LIGHT WINDSHIELD WIPER STREAKS ON THEM UP HIGH THOUGH SO THEY'RE NOT IN YOUR LINE OF SIGHT UNLESS YOU ARE LOOKING DIRECTLY BELOW THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. I WAS TOLD THESE COULD BE BUFFED OUT IF YOU CAN'T FEEL THEM WHICH I CAN'T. BODY IS NOT BAD AT ALL BUT DOES HAVE SOME RUST ALONG THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND LITTLE SPOTS HERE AND THERE AROUND THE BOTTOM EDGE. QUARTERS ARE GOOD WITH A LITTLE BUBBLING OF PAINT IN A FEW PLACES ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I HAVE IMAGES POSTED OF THE WORST OF THE RUST THAT WILL REQUIRE THE MOST ATTENTION. BUMPERS ARE DULL AND IN NEED OF RE CHROMING OR PAINTING WHICH SOME FOLKS PREFER. THE DOOR SEALS HAVE BEEN REPLACED BUT THE WINDOW/ROOF RAIL SEALS STILL NEED REPLACING. THE DRIVER'S DOOR NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED. THE HINGES ARE SUPER SOLID. NO SLOPPINESS TO THEM AT ALL BUT THE DOOR IS NOT ALIGNED AS WELL AS IT SHOULD BE. TRUNK HAS A FEW RUST HOLES BUT IS NOT IN NEED OF A TRUNK PAN. HOPE I'VE COVERED EVERYTHING BUT WILL BE UPDATING AS I THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE TO MENTION FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS THIS CAR BUT CAN'T VIEW IT IN PERSON BEFORE BIDDING. LOCATED IN THE TALLAHASSEE AREA. THIS IS A NON A/C VEHICLE BUT CAN EASILY BE CONVERTED IF DESIRED WITH THE PROPER COMPONENTS RETRIEVED FROM A 1973-1977 LE MANS, GRAND PRIX OR OTHER SIMILAR GM VEHICLE. THE OIL DIP STICK WAS BROKE WHEN I GOT THE CAR AND I BOUGHT WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE RIGHT REPLACEMENT. WHEN I INSTALLED IT AND STARTED THE CAR IT SEEMED TO JINGLE SO I MARKED IT AT WHERE IT WAS INDICATING THE OIL LEVEL WAS WHEN THE OIL WAS CHANGED AND KEEP IT IN THE TRUNK. THE BROKEN DIP STICK STAYS IN THE ENGINE. THIS IS SOMETHING THE NEW OWNER CAN ADDRESS IF THEY WANT OR LEAVE IT BE AS IT'S NO BIG DEAL. THE PAINT ON THIS CAR STILL LOOKS PRETTY NICE TO ME AND THE CLEAR COAT STILL SHINES. THE CAN AM LOGOS AND STRIPING DO SHOW SOME WEAR IN PLACES BUT REALLY NOTHING UNSIGHTLY. UNDERNEATH THIS CAR LOOKS GOOD AND SOLID FROM WHAT I CAN SEE. ALL OF THE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, DASH LIGHTS, CIGAR LIGHTER, HORN, WIPERS WORK. ODOMETER INDICATES JUST OVER 21,100 MILES BUT THIS IS A 5 DIGIT SYSTEM SO I CAN'T VOUCH FOR THE ACTUAL MILEAGE.
