1970 Sport Fury GT Patina Queen
On offer at NO RESERVE, is a fully numbers matching, 1970 Sport Fury GT, in "Survivor/Patina Queen" condition,...after almost 50 years. The car needs a total restoration, but I was just enjoying it as it is, driving it occasionally on nice days.
The car is mostly original and fully matching numbers, it's part of Plymouth's "Rapid Transit System"; executive MoPar muscle and is exceedingly rare. The total known production numbers for the 1970 GT are 666 examples produced. Approximately sixtyone of the 666 models featured the 440-6 or 6BBL carburetorsystem. It is thought that approximately sixtyfive 1970 Sport Fury GT cars exist in various states of condition, and this is one of them.
This car is a "standard" 4BBL. GT 440 Commandopackage car, matching numbers with the originalengine, and H/D 727 transmission. It has all of the options that the sport Sport Fury GT package had, and still is equipped with the original batteryheat shield, heavy duty front suspension, H/D sway bar, torsionbars etc., Plymouth Road Wheels, black reflective GT strobe stripes, hood treatment stripes, dual exhaust, A/C, bench-arm rest seats, standard AM radio, etc.
The car presents its self well, runs strong and has plenty of grunt. The radiatorand starter and battery are newer items; recent oil change. The paint is weak, the car was outside in the sun for years and the paint oxidized, faded and is thin in many places. The seats were recovered in black velour in the 1990' s and are now showing age. The door panels are very nice and not ripped or torn. The carpet and headliner need to be replaced. The car has a lot of patina, hence the name Patina Queen. But everyone seems to like it as it is, warts and all. I'm not sure how much of the paint is original but I believe it to be at least 50% or more original paint but I'm not sure. The GT reflective stripes and hood stripes are new and were installed last month. I removed the original stripes as they were very tired and old.
I've only driven it on various short trips to get a burger, ice cream, summer time cruisesetc. The car should be restored or enjoy as is until you are ready for restoration. The odometer shows approximately71,000 miles. I think this may be original miles, but have no way to prove it. I was told the GT was parked for years. There are a few issues to note: the car does have rust in the front drivers and passengers side front floor pan. But it isn't major and I would just repair the isolated rust, there is no need to replace the entirepans. The rockers and frame rails are super solid. The trunk pan and extensions need to be replaced, and the lower quarters under the "trunk extensions" need some repair. The rear frame rails are very, very solid and not rusty. I would say the car has rust issues, but isn't an overall "rusty car". The GT has been in a dry climate for years and undercover since I have owned it.
Previous to my ownership someone got into the electricalsystem and put a kill/start switch under the dash, and the wiring has been played with likely via 70 stereo, 8 track etc. So those issues will need to be addressed. A few items like the wipers aren't operating, (it's a loose wire at the motor) and the headlight doors aren't opening, but they do open by turning the headlight motor wheel. The headlights do work. Turn signals, flashers, brake lights function.
Again, this is a rare Rapid Transit System, C-body muscle car that needs restoration, or just enjoy as is and repair as you like.
I will assist and help with shipping/storage etc, and I will be happy to help international bidders. I can possibly bring the car to the Chicago area in an enclosed trailer for a very reasonable price. Clear open title, car sold as is where is. I have about 75 more photos showing condition, please email or call for additional information 206 218 5453.
Thank you for looking and good luck.
