Have I got something cool for you today. This is a 1968 Autokit Industries Invader GT Kit Car. Autokit was founded in the 1960s by Bruce Weeks. Eventually Autokit Industries shut down for reasons that are unknown to me. The molds, tooling, and other assets were sold to Roy Kaylor and marketed under the Kaylor Energy Products name. From what I understand although the kit was marketed in various magazines no other kits were made by Kaylor Energy Products.
The chassis is a 1968 VW Beetle with a 4 speed transmission. It has front disc brakes and rear drums. I was told by the previous owner this car was rebuilt in the 1990s. At that time they took out the old, tired aircooled VW engine and installed a 1985 Subaru EA82T mated to the VW transaxle via a Kennedy Engineering adapter. You can see a video of it running herehttps://youtu.be/iEZrKyJqiqY
This car is currently on the road and does get driven when weather permits. I have never driven it more than 20 or so miles at a time. The car does not have Heat or A/C nor does it have power steering, power brakes, not even a radio. it is not meant to be a daily driver. These cars are meant for people who enjoy tinkering and understand that this is a 50 year old car.
The car is registered in Vermont and will be sold with a Transfer of ownership form (on the back of the registration) Vermont does not issue titles for vehicles of this age.
Please do not bid unless you plan on immediately paying the deposit (and have money to pay the remainder) and you have gotten permission from your mom, dad, husband, wife, parole officer, etc. You will be responsible for getting the vehicle transported from North Carolina so please remember that when bidding.
