Thank you for looking at our extremely rare 1931 Auburn 8-98A Phaeton! Ourresearch shows that the Auburn Motor Company, part of Cord Corporation, worked hard to maintain sales and production levels throughout the great depression. They were even able to double their sales in 1931! Their production focus, the 8-98model was the first ever center x-braced rear wheel drive car. At the time, Fortune magazinereportedly claimed that the 8-98 was "the biggest package in the world for the price," and Business Week claimed it was "more car for the money than the public has ever seen."
Thisparticular car hasn't received the attention it deserved over the last few years and certainly is a project, but it'll be a beautiful car when you're done with it! All of the body panels are present, along with a complete drivetrain but it doesn't run. The frame looks to be solid and rebuildable with little rust damage. Most of the body looks to be solid as well, with the major rust damage being found in the spare wheel (side mount) on the front fenders. Many of the necessary parts to complete the restoration are present but we can't speak to what's missing. Did you see the chrome on the headlights?!
A car as historically significant as this deserves to be brought back to its former glory and enjoyed by future generations. And with a clean title in hand, it's an even better project! We hope that you agree and are ready for the adventure! If you have any questions about the car or would like to come see it in person, please send us a message and we will return your inquiry quickly!
