Thanks for checking out this rare survivor, very hard to find in this condition, specially a Bus. This bus is probably one of the lowest and most original 1978 VW buses in the country. When most people see it for thefirst time, hey believe it is restored, eaning new paint, nd interior etc. This bus, as not been restored, t is wearing most of its original paint, nterior isvery original, his bus has never been apart. It has been upkept through the years, as been cared for, as been detailed by a veryMeticulous Owners. This is a Show Bus, eing original it is nicer than any restored bus that I have seen. Here is the story of this beautifulonce in a life time low mileage Bay Window. It was bought new at Eyerly Volkswagen in November 1977. It has spent its whole life right here in Salem, regon. This is a true two owner vehicle, alwaysgaraged and always loved and cared for. Some dear friends of mine, ave and Kay, ought this bus from the original owner's family in 2008. They were at a family wedding, nd ran into an old high school acquaintance. After they started talking, he bus came up in the conversation, because their old friend knew that Dave and Kay loved special classic cars. She started to explain the history of her fathers VW Bus that he bought brand new. The bus was bought new by her father, nd after a few years of ownership he had passed away, ith only 18,000 miles on the odometer. The bus had still been kept up through the years, ut only backed in and out of the garage. Dave lovesvehicle like this with this type of historyand he has a love for VW's especially a bus, o like any classic vehicle, e pampers and improves them. But he knew this bus was an extremely special and rare find, o he did make a few modifications that he could easilyreverse. They bought this bus to enjoy and show off with his family. They have owned it for the last 7 years, nd they love it very much. It was always the go-to vehicle when they went to car shows. He had one of the nicest 1963 Corvettes in the country, ut the Corvette soon took a back seat to this bus. It has been to a lot of shows here in our area. Please give me a call if you want to talk about the bus, etter yet, ome and take a look at it in person, o you can see what it is in person, am open for you to send someone to inspect it, hat ever you want to do, o before you bid, heck it out.It is a great bus, t is 37 years old, oit does not have any warranty, t is as is, othing else ispromised, pend time studying the pictureif you want more pictures of description, lease read the auction 2 or 3 times, ost answers you will find, lease contact mewould love totalk to you about it. Thanks, ason 503-910-2085
In 2010 they had it up at the Woodburn National VW Meet, nd Hot VW's was there. When the editor first saw it, e thought"what a nice restored bus!", ut as he got closer to it, e realized this was an original survivor!! I show pictures of the December issue of Hot VW's and the feature they did on it. At pretty much any show it goes to, t will win an award. They took it to the largest show here in the Northwest, he Portland Roadster Show. Out of all of the cars there, t won the Peoples Choice Award, st in Original Class, nd the Best Original Engine Compartment. Truly a great showing. I took lots of photos, lease check them all out. What you are looking at is an original bus with some upgrades. It is not a restored trailer queen, ut it isamazing for an original Survivor trailer queen.Since he has owned it, t only goes out on nice days, o rain, t is in amazing original condition.
The body on this bus is suburb, bsolutely no rust, o rust repairs, xtremely clean. When they got the bus in 2008, t looked very nice, actually saw it the day they bought it, ave dropped it by my place, nd I could not believe my eyes, tthat time, t was stock height, riginal wheels and caps, hat a cream buff, he way you want to find them. It had some minor chips and light scratches on it. It is a very clean and original bus. Dave took it home, nd he started to clean it and polish everything. He is retired, nd he likes his cars to be kept in great condition. The paint is very nice, ith ahigh gloss on the paint. I do know that when the first owners had it, er dad had few spots touched up. Behind the rear wheel on the drivers quarter panel, e had scraped it in his garage, nd had the VW dealership repainted a small section behind the back wheel on quarter. It had various little chips and small scratches on it from sitting for many years, o it has been detailed on the outside, ith small touchup on little chips and scratches. You have to remember it is original paint, o the touchups were just making it as nice as possible. Outside, t looks awesome, utside it really looks amazing. Inside still looks great, ut Undershop lights, ou can see some of the small touchups and small dings that are in the body, ostly on the driver's side down lower panel. But overall, ut in the sunlight, o one would say a word, t looks great, hey wouldn't probably notice. It is wearing all of its original glass and the original weather stripping and felts and in very good shape look at photos. It is truly amazing. If you know buses, his stuff does not last as long as it has on this vehicle, nless it is low mileage and garaged. The front and rear bumper have been chromed. They were originally white, ut my friend wanted them to look really nice, o had them chromed.
The interior is amazing and is not restored 21K original miles, ery little wear. Perfect panels, erfect headliner, riginal rubber floor mats, mazing floors. The only item that has been replaced inside is the center seat upholstery. It was out of the bus, nd something ripped the seat, o the cover had to be replaced. Overall, he interior is just flat out amazing. The original owner had already replaced the radio, o my friend Dave had the radio upgraded, nd it sounds great. When you lift up the original floor rubber mats, hat is the original paint, o rust, uper clean.
The engine is original, ou can look at the original stampings and tags on it in the photos. It is totally amazing. It runs very good and has never been out of the bus. It does not blow smoke or burn any oil. It does have a few typical oil seepages, t is original, nd VW motors it is typical, hich you often see on these, specially on something so original. I was pretty amazed at how much power this bus has, specially with an AT transmission. The brakes all work well. This is one of the nicest riding buses I have ever been in. Not a rattle, ot a squeak, t just glides down the road. The steering box has asmall leakand probably will need to be resealed down the road, ut it steers flawlessly, nd does not effect its drivability. Everything works on this bus, ncluding all of the lights and the heater. As you can see, t has been slightly lowered. It has been lowered in the front with drop spindles, nd the rearend has been lowered by adjusting the rear torsion arms 5 degrees.
The very small upgrades to this bus can be reversed very easily in a day. This will be the only bus like this at any show. Once people realize that it is original, t will draw a crowd!!!
