Car description

1970 Oldsmobile Genuine Special Ordered Paint Code Double Dash on the Data Plate Verifying Special Ordered Sebring Yellow Authentic 442 W-30 selling at "No Reserve" Opportunities like this don't come around very often. This is an extremely rare 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 that I'm sure most 442 guyswill tend to agree that you rarely see a real 442 W-30 with a double dash paint code on the data plate. The model year 1970 has shown to be one of the most expensive years to acquire and was the pinnacle of the muscle car era.
If you simply double click on the main picture of this auction page then all 24 pictures will open up and be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures. This is the first time this 442 W-30 has ever been offered to the public on eBay.
I will explain everything I know about this real W-car, so the lucky winning bidder who wins thisrare gemcan decide exactly what they would like to spendprior to placing their bid. The fenders on this carare the original 1970 442 W-30 flat gutter fenders. I've had many Cutlass and 442's over the years, but have had very few W-30's. Although I do havealmost 40 yearsexperience to spot a real one. From everything I've seen, and have been told about thiscar, I personally believe this to be a true W-car. All W-30's were built in Lansing, Michigan which this car has the LAN on the data plate proving it is a Lansing built car. All true W-30's had manual front disc brakes which this car also has. The ram-air air cleaner is long gone, but they do make an aftermarket replacement for a nominal amount at many various classic car suppliers. This is the original ram-air 442 W-25 fiberglass hood with the steel frame. It does have the proper chrome twistdowns.
I made this purchase from the son of the gentleman who had owned this 442 real W-30 since the late 1980's. I personally met the father who said he had known this W-30 his entire life throughout highschool in the 70's. He said this genuine 442 is a true W-30 that does havethe original 12-bolt positive traction 442 rear end with the original boxed control arms, and the original rear sway bar. The original limited slip posi tag is still on the rear-end. There is no way to prove thisreal 442 to be a true W-30 unless there is documentation. Except if a real 442 happens to have the original OW numbers matching transmission that was only available on a W-30. I showed a picture of the OW tag on the side of the turbo 400 transmission. This special ordered paint true W-30 car does have the super rare OW transmission that only came on W-30's to prove that this car was what the sellers father said it is.
I looked for the build sheet under the carpet, and inside the front bucket seats. No luck in either spot, however I never looked under the gas tank. I am leaving that treasure hunt up to the new owner.I've onlyowned this W-car for a little over 2 years now. I've never tried to start it up. I was waiting for the son to try and talk his father into getting me the title. They promised me month after month and months turned into years, so I'm done waiting. I have other 442's to restore. I purchased the car in Mississippi and brought it back to Kenosha where it has sat inside my shop until this past September 30th when I gave up my shop. The car is currently at my residence and will need to be picked up from my home.
There are several items missing or in need of restoration under the hood, so the new owner has his work cut out for him to get it running again. Obviously this gem is in need of a complete restoration. This engine currently in this car is another early 70's 455, but has not been started in many years. I was told this Oldsmobile Big Block Rocket 455 was from a 1972 442 with G-Heads that ran well. This engine does have the proper 396021 F casting numbers that was beefed up with an Offenhauser aluminum intake manifold and a Holley double pumper. The Dad said this car used to smoke Hemi's for breakfast back in the 70's. I did receive the expensive open faced W-30 alternator that will be included in the trunk, but will need to be rebuilt. I know how all true 442 guys know how expensive one of those rear finned alternators can be. I also received what I was told was the original block with the car which will also be included. I showed a picture of the block I received with the purchase. If I were going to restore this car I would do a frame off restoration. As shown in the last picture is a Rally Red 70 that just sold at the Barrett-Jackson West Palm Beach auction this past April for $130,000. Since this car has the double dash paint code it could be changed to Rally Red and still be considered the original paint color, but that would also be the choice of the new owner. I specifically showed the 1970 color code chart, so viewers will know how truly rare a double dash W-car really is.
This car does not come with a title, and is free and clear of any liens. The winning bidder will receive a Bill of Sale in their name. I know it is relatively easy to obtain a title in many states like Indiana and Georgia. Some states don't even require a title on classic cars over 25 years old anymore. Dealers and repair shops have easy access to titling the older vehicles as well. I have heard of an easy way to obtain a clean and clear title in the new owners name through the Broadway Title Co. in Bangor, ME. That can all be done online with a little research. Obtaining a title will be left up to the winning bidder.
After realizingthe overwhelming projects that I have going onI chose to sell this rare iconic muscle car. Nowadays the mileagecomes upexempton a new title when a car is freshly registered thatis over 10 to 20years old depending onthe state. The mileage is believed to be original at just over 76,000 miles. The last time this 442 was legally registered was in April of 1990, so I would imagine the mileage as being correct. The seller said those are the correct plates, but the DMV in Mississippi is showing no record on file, since it hasn't been registered for over 28 years. This genuine 442 W-30 is 48 years old, and is truly a barn find that has been sittingfor all of those years in Mississippi. There wasno reason tofake orclone W-30's back then. The inner red fender wells are the ones I received with the car. I believe all the body panels to also be original to the car down to the original door edge guards.
Most of the chrome is present including the rear cut-out back bumper. The front and the rear floor pans are the originals and have never been replaced. The carpeting is worn, but there is a new set of fourblack carpetedfloor mats. The front bucket seats appear in pretty nice condition. The rear seats look in pretty good condition. The headliner and rear package tray will need to be replaced. I didn't see any cracks in the dash board, and the original AM radio is still in the dash. This dash was never cut up like was typically done back in the day to fit aftermarket stereo's.
This Real 442 W-30 sits on a set of four Old School Kelly Super Charger raised white lettered belted tires withgood tread mounted on 14" inch Super Stock II wheels painted in the correct Argent Silver for 1970. All four wheels have all four bolt-on center caps, and all fourbeauty trim rings. The original trunk floor was never repaired or replaced and has a trunk mat witha jack and crow bar. Also included in the trunk is a 14" inch full size Super Stock II spare tire. The inside of the trunk lid still has the original jacking instructions, stowage, and posi-traction decals. In my opinion the frame still appears in very nice shape from everywhere I looked, and this car is more than worthy of bringingthis real 1970 442 W-30 back to its former glory. These older classics that have survived for nearly half a decade are becoming harder and harder to find.
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently hasa genuine1970 Oldsmobile442 W-30 Sport Coupe with the Rocket 455/365 horsepower engine listed at $172,385 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
Nada has the average condition valued at $107,985, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
They have the lowest condition value at $74,405 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
