Car description

Unbelievable story, but true! 1953 MG TD/2, numbers matching,54,668miles. Red with red interior, tan convertible top and top boot. Earlier this year a friend of mine, in an effort to down size and clean out his garage offered to sell me his MG TD/2and after seeing the condition and hearing it's history I couldn't refuse his offer. My friend, the 2nd owner, saw this MG sitting on the showroom floor of a Studebaker dealer in Kansas City Mo. onApril 11, 1960 on his way to work. He went to work, took the day off and went back and purchased the car on the spot. He licensed it and in the summer of 1960 he put 663 miles on it. In the fall of 1960 he parked the car in the garage (climate controlled year round) and it did not come out until I purchased it in 2017 (57 years later), and to me that is absolutelyamazing. Since I have owned the car, I have been working (tinkering)toward getting it running and stopping. So far I have cleaned the fuel tank and replaced the screen strainer, flushed the fuel line, replaced the pump to carb fuel line, and the carb to carb fuel line, replaced the fuel pump with a new SU electronic version, had the dual SU carburetors professionally rebuilt to new condition documented with a letter of certification, replaced all 6 wheel cylinders with new, replaced the master cylinder with new, replaced all 3 brake hoses, replaced radiator hoses, heater hoses, had the heater core repaired, new fan belt, new battery, new battery cables, new starter switch, new distributor cap, new ignition points, new plugs, plug wires, had the seat covers and cushionsprofessionally replaced with new, new windshield wipers, and I am sure several things that I am forgetting. I also changed the oil and filter (the last time it was changed was Mar 30,1960). Anyway, to make a long story short, the car will start (engine sounds very good and does not smoke),move and stop, but is still a ways from being road worthy. The wide white wall tires on the car are at least 57 years old (probably older) and amazingly never went flat still holding 1960 air. Just to put things into perspective, the tires are Lee "Super Deluxe", a very high quality tire in the 50's, they came on the market in 1952and the Lee Tire Co went out of business over 30 years ago. In my opinion newtires going on this beauty should be the preference of the new owner. The "TD under dash panel" that shields the wiring is also still in place which I understandis very rare. The body of the car is straight and does not appear to have ever been damaged in any way. The belly and frame of the car are both very clean and very solid and they look verygood, and even the bottoms of the fenders are clean as if this car never traveled on a dirty road. The steering is tight with no play. The dash is complete and looks very nice. The steering wheel is original andis showing it's age. The convertible top, the top boot, and the tonneaucover are original to the car, not ripped or torn but are starting to show their age and slightly stained. The side curtain windows are slightly cloudy and right rear is brittle and has cracked. The paint isa very nice driver quality, but is not perfect with a few blemishes and rock chips, there has been paint work done to the car prior to my friend purchasing it, so I do not know the story on that. The bumpers are for the most part straight, do not have any rust but do have a few blemishes. The factory king dick jack, engine crank, and associated tools are still with the car. The reason I am offering the MG for sale is because when I purchased it I was in the middle of restoring a 65 Mustang Fastback for my wifeand she is not happy with the money spent and the time consumed NOT on her Mustang. So, if you like MG's, and willing to do a little work to finish this project and put this amazing classic survivorback on the road then this may be the one you have been looking for. This car is not ashow car but it is a well preserved, unmolested, undisturbed original that in the right hands could in a matter of hours very easily be a daily driver or a future quality show car. Iam not by any means an expert on these cars, but have tried to describe it to the best of my ability and have probably missed something that you need to know, if so just ask. If you or your representative would like to inspect this car in person prior to the end of the auction, again justask and arrangements will be made. The car is located in Independence Mo. 64056, 10 miles east of downtown Kansas City Mo. As I stated earlier, the car is not yet road worthy mainly because of the tires, some fine tuning here and there, and no seat belts which will also be the preference of the new owner. So you can look, listen, but there will be no test drives at this time.I also have access to a car lift so I can put it in the air so the bottom can be inspected. The car is sold "as is" "where is" with no warranty or guarantee. The car witha good Missouri title in my name will be furnishedwhen payment in full has been made. The buyer will be responsible for all transportation costs if needed and help can be provided on this end to assist the transporter if needed.
