Car description |
---|
Made in Ford’s Oakville, Ontario, Canada assembly plant, this truck is virtual twin to the 1959 Ford F-100 save for badging and nameplates.
Finished in black with white bumpers, grille, headlight bezels and wheel covers, the truck’s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The truck’s bodywork is straight and the white bumpers look great and provide a natural contrast to the body color. The truck’s engine bay is very tidy, the Super Star battery looks good and its oaken floor really dresses up the cargo bed.
This truck rolls on Cooper Trendsetter SE tires, size P235/75R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on black steel wheels topped with contrasting factory white wheel covers. The tires and wheel covers are all in very good order.
Under the hood is a 223 CID “Cost Clipper†inline six-cylinder engine bolted to a three-speed manual transmission and a 3.89:1 rear end. This truck has a 110-inch wheelbase and a 5,000 gross vehicle weight rating.
Inside, the black-and-white vinyl interior is in good, original condition overall. The bench seat could use some TLC. The white headliner is in shape similar to that of the bench seat. The black, three-spoke steering wheel looks great and ready for a new adventure. The black metal instrument panel and inner door liners are all in very good order and have added features to remind the driver he’s in a Mercury – a dash-mounted clock and gauge bezel engraved with dual star patterns similar to those found on the Continental Mark II. Temp gauge is inop. A column-mounted shift lever completes the interior.
Competition to this Mercury in 1959 included Chevrolet’s Task Force series, Ford’s F-series, and GMC’s Blue Chip series trucks.
Ford only sold these new in Canada to give Lincoln-Mercury dealers north of the border trucks to sell. These Canuck-trucks are becoming rarer and rarer, especially south of the border so all of you Ford truck and truck fans best not drag your feet getting to MotoeXotica Classic Cars to check out this unique Mercury pick-‘em up truck today!
