1950 MERCURY 2 DOOR V8 AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE, PS, PB AND NEW TIRES.
I purchased this car from an estate. It had professional work done years back. A Ford V8 with a 4sp automatic, ps, pb, and tilt column. This was all done very professionally (not hacked up like some out there). It is now a 12 volt system with wiring from a donor car and the tilt wheel from a Lincoln.
There is some floor and trunk repairs done with new metal. No rust repairs needed on this southern car, and of course the frame is not rusted. After the older gentleman stopped driving the car, it was parked under a carport with the driver's side exposed to the sun. Because of this, the driver's door, quarter panel and back of front fender are faded with some cracking in the paint. The rest of the car looks nice! The color is a dark Plum, in some lighting it looks like black cherry or maroon. There is some chips and scratches from being driven as you would expect. The bumpers are originals and not rechromed.
All the glass is good and the rubber and seals have been replaced.
The interior was completely redone and still looks very nice.
I had plans of putting a Chevy big block in it (Chevy guy), Igniter mags, vintage ac and so on. After spending time going over the car and driving it I decided it would be a shame to change it. This is a Merc with a Ford engine and trans in it, and if I was a Ford guy, I would like it that way. It has sat for awhile before I purchased it. I put new plugs in it and fresh fuel, fuel filter, and it runs good. I did not rebuild the carb or replace the points. The engine is strong with no smoking, knocking or weird noises. Trans shifts like it should and brakes work good. I also put new tires on it because the ones on it were dry cracked.
Everything working as it should are as follows:Lights, high and low beamTurn signalsEmergency flashersBrake lightsInterior and dash lightsOil pressure gauge, amp gauge and fuel gaugespeedometer/ODOVacuum operated wipersHorn
NOT working are:Lic. plate lightRadioHeater/defrostCig. lighterTemp gaugeclockNo key for doors and trunk. You will have to have one made or replace locks. No spare
