Car description |
---|
Very very very rare 1940 Mercury Sedan.
I have been collecting cars and going to car shows for over the past 20 years. I have never seen a 1940 Mercury Sedan.
Looking on the old inner web I found a total of two and neither near as nice as this one…
With that said, here are a few facts as I know them.
I am helping to sell for a long time family friend who’s husband just passed from cancer.
They acquired the car a little over 6 years ago, just after it was completely restored to original like new condition.
It had just over 68 thousand miles on it.
Shiny smooth clean black paint.
Stainless and chrome look shiny and new.
Grey cloth interior is like new and spotless.
Dash is in perfect condition and all gauges work as intended.
Steering column ignition and wheel lock works perfectly.
Emergency hand brake works well and holds car on inclined driveway.
I pulled the choke lever out about ¾, turned on the ignition, pushed the start button and it started right up.
After warming the engine up a couple of minutes, I drove it around the neighborhood for a short while,,, All is good…
Drive train - Engine, transmission and rear end work perfect.
Engine, 239.4 CI Flathead V-8 runs smooth, with no unusual sounds or noises with the exception of the wonderful sound of the duel exhaust.
Stock ignition with 6 Volt Positive ground.
Three on the tree transmission shifts smooth with no gear noises.
The new clutch chatters a bit from grabbing if taking off in 1st gear too slow.
Enclosed rear end is quiet and makes no unusual noises.
Steering is tight and smooth.
Brakes work well as intended.
This is a wonderful opportunity to own this exceptional example of a 1940 Mercury Sedan.

The car had been stored in the garage for just over 2 years while he was fighting the cancer. The oldest daughter had it towed on a flat bed from Lake Elsinore to her home in Cypress. She used starting fluid to start it for the first time. To her surprise, when she removed the top of the oil bath air filter, there was an aftermarket modern paper air filter inside that fit and worked perfectly.
