Car description |

Here is your chance to own the rare and most sought after 1973 Mercedes Benz 450SL. 1973 was the first year for the more powerful 450 SL model with its 4.5 liter V8. It is also highly desirable because 1973 was the last year for small, chrome, body hugging Euro bumpers on the SL models. The later cars have the bigger, awkward looking metal and rubber bumpers.
This car has been owned by my mother (now 85 years old) since around 1985. My mother has driven the car less than 2k miles per year since purchase as it was only used as a summer pleasure driving type of car and it never went far from her home. The odometer is now showing only 90,082 miles. This is quite low for car produced in 1973 (46 years ago). She has always had the car professionally maintained. It is serviced by Vintage Sports Cars in Plainfield, NH. This 1973 450SL is all original and is finished in a rare and unique green color. The paint is in very good condition as the car has always been stored inside and generally covered. It has not been painted nor re-painted anywhere since my mother has owned it. The original hubcaps are color matched to the car. It also comes with a removable, color matching hardtop in excellent condition and the headliner looks fine (usually by now they do not). The soft top is in very good condition as well with no rips, tears or holes. The V8 engine runs smoothly and the automatic transmission shifts flawlessly with no issue at all. The car runs and drives great and the brakes work well. Because the car has always been stored inside (and generally covered) the paint is in excellent shape. The body has no dents at all and, importantly, it has no rust or rust holes in the body or the underside.
This 1973 450SL is all original and comes with its original color matching hardtop and hubcaps. It has not been modified from stock in any way. My mother has never been in an accident with the car in the roughly 34 years she has had it. It has not been painted nor re-painted anywhere since my mother has owned it. The gauges and the radio are all original and seem to work well. The interior is also original and in good condition with the exception of a small crack on the top of the dash (above the left dash vent). The carpet is good and the seats are in good shape having no noticeable wear spots, tears, or holes.
There are a few minor known issues with the car. As mentioned above, there is a small crack on top of dashboard above left vent. The Muffler has hole(s) in it and needs to be replaced (it was cheaply patched by a grandson). The AC has not been used in several years because the top was usually down (not sure it works). I found a small crack in the floor under the spare tire. The thermostatic fan clutch should be checked.
A 1973 450SL that is this original and in this condition is getting hard to find. Most have high mileage or serious mechanical problems and/or rust problems. This car is low mileage, has no rust problems, good paint and interior and a strong motor and transmission. It runs, drives and brakes nicely with no pulling or odd noises. With a little care, this will be a nice car for someone. Hagerty's lists this car in good (#3) condition at $16,400 and NADA lists the average retail as $24,400. Because my mother would like to sell, it is priced WAY below book at only $8,500 or best offer.
Don't miss your chance to buy such a great classic/collector car for such a low price.
