Hello all,
I purchased this 240d early this year from an enthusiast who had done a ton of work on it. I used the car to commute back and forth to Spokane and Portland for big projects over the summer, and continue to drive the car as a commuter to the airport for work, almost weekly. Personal circumstances are forcing me to downsize -- and I have to keep the vehicle I have an active loan on (an SUV). I have kept fuel records since the day I bought it to track mileage -- this car will get you between 27 and 35mpg depending on how it's driven, tire inflation, etc. thanks to the gearing of the installed diff. This ad will be long-winded, but the type of person buying an '82 240d probably appreciates background on the car. In my experience, you either find these for parts or you find them in collector condition for crazy amounts of money. This is a rare example of a well-kept, great running daily driven 240d at a reasonable price point.
The car was purchased in California where it stayed through the late 80's, then moved to Bellevue. It's a west-coast ride and you're hard pressed to find any significant rust. I have the original owner manuals and maintenance booklets -- they had it stamped every oil change through 1994 when the book ran out of pages.
The black interior is complete with minor hairline cracks on dash, and mostly everything works. Exceptions: cruise control, air conditioner compressor belt is removed so I never tried it.Heat works well, defrosters work well, lights work well. Includes a spare wheel/tire and even the original first aid kid!
This car has the differential from a 1985 300d installed (2.88) as of Jan 2018, so the car is now capable of cruising at highway (70mph+) speeds at much lower RPMs. I've had this car up to 80+ MPH. This diff. is pretty rare as it was only in one year of the 300d and you don't often see it swapped into a 240. Downside is that the speedometer is off by 22% and a slow car is even slower, but I have a 300d instrument cluster with the proper gearing that will come with the car.
I have a handful of receipts totaling about 2k. Here are some items that have been done in 2018:
Pioneer head unit with new speakers front and rear. New Shift Bushing. Professional tint job all windows. Replaced ball joints, valve adjustment, sway bar ends replaced, fuel lines replaced, fuel tank cleaned, wheel alignment, fuel filters, glow plugs, injectors, clutch slave cylinder, brake pads/rotors, brake fluid flushed, Optima red-top battery, Amp/subwoofer wiring installed.
The car has a dent in the rear passenger door and the paint is oxidized, otherwise she's super clean and beautiful. Glow plugs fire the car up, even in this 32 degree weather, with no issue. I park the car on a concrete slab and don't have any stains below it, no leaking, so mechanically she's in good shape and I would not hesitate to drive it long distances.
I have a clean Washington state title, in my name, two keys, the owners manuals and receipts for most items listed above, a few MercedesSource tools and spare parts, and 5 oil filters to go with the car.

This car is 37 years old and other than the clutch slave ($30), I never had a single issue with it in the 5600 miles I put on it this year. That said, I am selling the car "as is, where is" as any sane person would. I'd drive this car anywhere if there wasn't snow, in fact I'm driving it from Seattle to Portland this week for work.
