Car description |
---|
Selling my beloved fintail. California car. NO Rust. Never driven by me in snow or rain. Kept mostly under cover and driven 7 or 8 times during summer for last 6 years.
Meticulously maintained. Drives like a dream--straight, tight, silent suspension and excellent brakes. Six cylinder motor and 3-speed auto trans has a lot of giddyup in this smaller w110 chassis. Tires at 90%. Unused spare with original jack and Mercedes tool kit. Two-volume factory repair manual, parts book, Glenns and Chilton manuals. Original owners manual. Many receipts and maintenance log. Old Mercedes framed magazine ad.
Lights, turn signals, windshield washer/wiper, heater fan, horn, emergency flasher; even original radio and clock work (runs slow--needs contact cleaned). Have receipt for earlier engine rebuild. Mechanically, the car is excellent and can be driven anywhere.
Work done by me:
Flush/rebuild radiator, install Pertronix electronic ignition, rebuild power steering pump, rebuild head (.009 skim with new head bolts and gasket, one valve and all valve stem seals), rear windscreen gasket, new front calipers and rotor, brake hoses, Carter electric fuel pump, front crank seal, chain tensioner O ring, thermostat, associated gaskets, and belts/hoses, windshield washer pump bellows, rebuilt both carbs with adjust and balance, plugs/wires, stainless steel exhaust manifold, flush/rebuild heater core and valves, shifter bushings and washers, 2 degree offset cam key, trunk gasket, diff pinion seal, torque arm bushings front and rear, rear stabilizer bushings, rear end align, driveshaft carrier bearing, trans mount, filter and fluid changes, regular adjustments, filters/gaskets
Still needs doing:
replace windlass (will include fabric with sale)clean contacts in clock (runs slow)touch-up road rash, small scratches and hubcaps from curb scrape
replace bulb in instrument panel and license platepan gasket has a slight leaktrunk is slightly sprung--opening is not symmetrical, needs bent back
CosmeticsUpholstery was replaced at some time and is in excellent condition. Slight wallet wear on front seat. Headliner perfect, but needs cleaning.Perfect dash with no cracks.Carpeting nearly new.
Chrome is very good with very little pitting or scratches.
A previous paint job was not excellent. While thick, protective and well-masked there are some areas where it shrank and caused cracks. Some bubbles on door.Windshield has two small stone chips.
Some gorilla tried to lift car at right rocker--caused an indentationDoor seals are mostly intact, but not very pliableSlight indentations on driver's door where plastic trash can blew over
This is my third vintage Mercedes chassis. There are no more mysteries for me with this w110, so some of the fun has gone out of owning it, although there is nothing like the feel of this car on the road. It really rides better than my 123 or 107. I have treated this car with the respect these German engineering marvels deserve, but it is time to move on to a Ponton. Thank you for your consideration and good bidding.
