I am selling my beloved 1988 G Wagen. I have owned this vehicle and it's been my daily driver for 5 years. When I bought it, it was the cleanest most rust free G I had seen. It has a 2.5 OM602 diesel engine. Most of these you see have the older diesels in them. This engine has a larger oil pan fitted to it from a German military Wolf. It is mated to a Mercedes Automatic transmission and has front and rear differential locks. This vehicle was originally imported to Japan so it is Right hand drive. It has power steering and excellent power brakes. Everything on it works, including the rear wiper and defrost. Over the 5 years that I have owned it I had to replace the alternator, one fuel line and the pump. Thats not bad over 5 years of daily driving. The interior is in good shape, the only wear is the drivers seat, typical. The front seats have sheepskin covers on them. Glass is all good, headliner is good, no cracks in the dash etc. The exterior is good. The only rust that I can see is the bottom of the back door on the interior. There is some separation of the paint on the passenger side towards the back but it doesnt look too bad. The vehicle has nice alloy wheels and good tires, probably 75 percent tread left. It has the heavy duty tow pin front bumper and a hitch on the back. It comes with a manual, several extra oil filters (easy to get) and a vintage Mercedes tool kit.
Now the bad: This thing is slow. It is a very heavy vehicle powered by a smaller diesel engine. I can get it up to 70 on the interstate without trouble but it struggles on hills. It does fine around town and out in the country. It is designed to be an off road SUV and it does that admirably. If you can live with that it is probably the best 4x4 in the world. It pulls my 8 foot flatbed trailer fine.
