Cosmetically the car is in fantastic condition, without a door ding to be found, anywhere. There is no paint work on the car at all. The paint thickness is .038-.042 which is exactly correct for a W126 without any paint work. The car is 100% rust and corrosion free, cosmoline is still plainly evident on the undercarriage and engine parts. All the cad plating on the bolts and under hood items is very clear and unblemished. The cad plating typically acts as a sacrificial anode on these cars and will be the first thing to corrode.Most of the original part number stickers are on all the suspension components, and the undercarriage looks great.
The interior of the SEC is well...immaculate. ZERO bolster wear, original rugs are without a stain or blemish. Headliner is beautiful. Wood veneers are crack free and vibrant, no wear on any switches, ect. All power windows, antenna, heated seats, Becker Grand Prix radio work as they should. EVERYTHING works.
However...on a very sad note the dealer installed cell phone will power up, but not make a call. Very disappointing. This is just a true testament to the originality and care this car received over the years.
Maintenance is excellent, with the service records reading like very detailed airplane log books instead of receipts. The timing chain and guides were recently replaced, a preventative and very expensive job ($3,000). The guides on these 5.6 engines are made of a polymer that has been shown to degrade over time. Any 5.6 powered R107 or W126 should have these replaced, regardless of mileage. When they fail, the engine failure is catostrophic.
All the brakes and A/C were recently serviced, and I just fit a brand new set of OE spec ($800) tires.
The car runs great, drives straight, smells new...basically shows as a 10k mile car not a 39k mile car.
I have been collecting vintage Mercedes for many years, and know these cars in and out. This car is a true "turn key". find.
