In February, 1988 Dr. D.B. Rook took delivery of this 560SL at Mercedes Benz of Dallas (Production date of 10/87) and kept the car stored in his garage away from the elements accumulating some 15,000 miles in 3 years of ownership. He passed away in early 1991 upon his retirement to Florida. The car has been nurtured and garaged kept for the past 30 years with its' yearly dealer checkup and then stored back in the garage.
The car has zero rust or corrosion, and cosmoline is still very present on the undercarriage and most of the engine components. The paint is all original and candidly quite perfect for being over 30 years old with no appreciable scratches, dents, dings, discoloration, ect. The car does not have any paint work aside from the deck lid which acquired a scratch from the hard top pin (you R107 guys know what I'm talking about) that was correctly repaired and you wouldn't know it if I didn't disclose it to you.
The paint mils out at around .042 which is correct for a original R107 that has not been cut and buffed all its' life.
The original Alpaca interior is in beautiful shape. You can see your reflection in the crack free veneers. The seats are fantastic and show virtually no age. The seat stuffing is very firm and a true testament to this vehicles low mileage and excellent care.Even the buttons show no wear. Everything from the power locks to the original Becker Grand Prix stereo works great. There is not a bulb that is out on the car...not even the fussy 560SL third brake light. The Air Conditioning works great as well as the heat. The HVAC funnels through the correct vents and never defaults to the defrost.
The hard top is perfect and has been off the car twice and properly stored. It will be reinstalled for shipping. The aluminum hard top stand will be disassembled and stowed in the trunk, with the unused tool kit that is still in the plastic and the original spare that has never been out of its' well.
Mechanically the car is a star. Extensive preventive maintenance has been done to the car to keep her leak free and dispatch ready. The timing chain guides were recently replaced as a pre emptive measure because we all know that the plastic guides disintegrate from age, not mileage. This is a $3,000 job...that every 560SL should have done to it, as a safety measure.
The original tires were recently replaced for safety issues in lieu of a set of Michelins. The car runs great, drives great, stops great. Just a all around very tight R107.
I have owned more of these cars than Mercedes of Dallas, and know them very well. This car is ready to go and needs absolutely no refinishing or maintenance to be brought up to par.
I also know how many pigs in lipstick exist on eBay and candidly laugh and some of the auctions I see.
I'd be more than happy to help with shipping, and have extensive experience shipping to Europe and other places. My European friends, your bid is welcome on my auctions.
I'm here to offer a great car at a great price, but please understand my car is a highly documented example of a blue chip quality investment grade car, with a exemplary pedigree, and is one of the finest examples on the market...being sold by a seller with extensive R107 knowledge.
I require full payment within 3 business days of auction close. Title will be sent Fedex if being sold State side or with your freight forwarder if being sold over seas.
Thank you and feel free to ask me any question you'd like. I will promptly respond.
Car is for sale on other venues and auction can be ended at anytime.
