This is a 1957 Mercedes Ponton 220. The Mercedes Ponton was a classic business sedan. There just are not a lot of these left. This car was a left-over at my shop. The owner wanted a ground up restoration but did not come forward with the money when the project began. The car sat and eventually came into my possession. It is what you would expect from a car of this age. Parts are still available for this car. It spent a couple of years outside the garage so it has soft spots in the floor. but the body is remarkably solid. All the wood (Dash. hand rails. arm rests window frames) are in excellent condition. Car does not appear to have been wrecked. What makes this car special is that ALL of the chrome is in the trunk so the car is complete. The old manuals are even still in the car. There is surface rust where the paint prep was started but never finished. There is rust-through in a couple of small spots. Even better. Items that are usually bent. such as the grill. are in excellent condition. We have yet to get the motor un-stuck. but we believe it will (we have oil in cylinders now) because it was running previous to the project dis-assembly. I am going to sell this car for less than it is worth to make room in my warehouse. My hope is that someone who can dedicate time to this classic will pick it up and run with it. The car has a clear Florida title.
