Car description |

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this low mileage, well-kept 1979 Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9. Mercedes' flagship model of the era, these cars were produced in low numbers and sold at a crushingly expensive price point -- nearly $50,000 while the most expensive Cadillac of the time could be had for less than $17,000. What you got was an engineering tour de force and the world's fasted production sedan.
This example was purchased by our client from the estate of a local Mercedes collector. It has been in Georgia since the late 80s and driven sparingly over the last 20 years. Fewer than 77,000 original miles. The late owner commissioned a high-quality repaint in original DB172 Anthracite, installed upgraded Euro headlights, a Becker 754 and 15-inch 126 style wheels with Michelin Pilots.
The current owner has invested considerable time and money in recent recommissioning which has included oil service, hydraulic suspension service with new accumulators and connecting rods, rear brake calipers, lines, pads and brake flush, fuel filter and system service, battery, hood pad, muffler hangers, shifter bushings and brake vacuum line.
Paint and body are very nice; trim, bumpers and rubbers show well -- there is a minor kink above the left rear wheel arch. Original interior shows well with leather showing minor patina but holding up, nice original carpets, headliner and wood. A dash cap has been installed in the past.
Notably the original Hirschmann antenna works, clock is accurate, all gauges work, sunroof works, the hydropneumatic suspensions raises, lowers and levels within 6.9 specification. Power locks and cruise control both work. Left rear window inop and A/C is not blowing cold -- we suspect a clogged expansion valve.
This 6.9 includes several items that usually go missing; all heat shielding for exhaust is in place, front valence / spoiler is in place, the plate over the oil sump to tank return lines is in place.
Overall this Mercedes shows as a well-preserved and garaged example with lots of recent service. Owner's manual, spare, jack, first aid kit and and original key included.
