Earth Motorcars is proud to offer this absolutely stunning and extremely rare frame off restored, 1967 Mercedes 250SL Convertible
Comprehensive 1 year restoration completed in 2016 2.5L straight 6-cylinder engine Approximately 200 miles on engine rebuild New stainless exhaust Rare factory 5-speed transmission Refreshed in factory correct Nissan Blue paint New Black leather interior New soft top In previous owner's retention since 1984One of the rarest options on the Mercedes-Benz W113-series Pagoda Roadsters was the code-230 ZF 5-speed manual transmissions. Only available in combination with the code-232 rear axle with 4.08:1 ratio gearing, Mercedes-Benz installed approximately 850 ZF 5-speed transmissions in the W113-series cars from 1966-1971 worldwide and 1966-1969 for cars destined for the United States. The production number for the 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SL with factory-installed 5-speed transmission has been estimated at a scant 112 automobiles, making this gorgeous example part of a very exclusive group. The 250SL was a direct evolution of the 230 that maintained not only the same bodywork inspired by the legendary 300SL but also its outstanding all-independent suspension and excellent disc brakes, which were now used at all four corners. The main change was the change from the M127.II 2.3L inline-6 engine to the M129.II 2.5L engine, a sturdier unit with seven main bearings instead of four, a slightly increased stroke and larger valves. While horsepower remained the same at 150, the new engine showed a noticeable increase in torque, perfectly suiting it to the demands of the American driver. Of the approximately 1,900 250SL Roadsters exported to the United States, most came equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission, but very few arrived with the rare ZF 5-speed manual transmission that made the best use of the 2.5L engine’s flexibility. The recipient of a superb comprehensive restoration completed in 2016 the car was in the previous owner’s care from 1984 to 2015. This is a beautiful car presenting in first-rate condition with approximately 200 miles on its freshly rebuilt engine. Upgraded with new stainless steel exhaust, it has been refreshed in the correct Nissan Blue and sports a new Black leather interior and matching soft top.
