HISTORIC BACKGROUND: If Bob Hall (journalist on Motor Trend’s staff) had never visited Kenichi Yamamoto in 1976, the Mazda Miata likely would never have been built! Yamamoto had asked Hall what kind of car Mazda should build next, and Hall suggested a sports car in the original compact British tradition that no longer was being made. By 1982, Hall (fluent in Japanese – and an expert on Japanese cars) was working for Mazda, and he and Yamamoto picked up where they had left off 6 years earlier. By 1983, the sports car project was approved, and the rest – as they say – is history.

The MX-5 Miata was an instant hit. It won Automobile Magazine’s “Automobile of the Year” in 1990, made Car & Driver’s “10-Best” list over 15 times, and prompted Jeremy Clarkson (2009) to proclaim “The fact is that if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect.”

CLEAN CARFAX… the Carfax Report is shown in its entirety. It confirms a single owner from the purchase date of 8-15-89 to 11-10-17 when it was sold to a collector friend. It also confirms no accidents or damage reported.

One Mileage Inconsistency…you will notice that there is a 1-2-2001 Emission Inspection at 37,969 miles followed by a 9-27-2001 Oil Change. It appears that the mileage was then incorrectly entered as 32,864…this is the sole “mileage inconsistency”, which appears to again be on the correct track on 12-19-2001 at 43,248 miles.

OPERATIONAL REPORT…This Miata is amazing to drive. Adult-female-owned and driven for 28-years, it drives as nice as it looks. We have never seen a 28-year old car as original, well-cared-for, and nice as this car. Never “just a car”, extensive service and maintenance records were neatly kept.

The air-conditioning works, but has gotten to the point where a spring “top-off” charge has been necessary to get through the summer. Cruise control and cassette-player were not tested, but all exterior lights, horn, wipers, washers, power windows, and AM-FM radio were tested and worked fine.

In sum, it would be difficult to find a lower-mileage, more original, and better cared-for/documented first-year MX-5 Miata than this one! For Miata enthusiasts…it is a true “find”!
